    Not sure if this is directed at me, but if that's what you're getting from my posts, you're not reading them or not understanding them. It wasn't really directed at anyone, just the idea that Harden isn't a gamble.

    I think this topic should be discussed more. They need to be creative with Harden. Somebody jokingly suggested trading for him and putting him on the DL before this all went down. With the 4-day break coming up and 3 off days in August, I'd like to see them mix in some rest for him by going with Marshall and Marquis, and possibly even a Lieber start against a team he might match up with (Houston or Washington perhaps). I'd have Lilly and Zambrano take the first two starts after the break, then possibly throw Marquis in game three to push both Dempster and Harden back. Call Marshall back up in late July and give him a start in AZ or againt FLA. I think that is a good idea provided they have enough of a lead. Keeping Marshall and especially Marquis fresh in the dog days is a good plan too. Marquis really fades after the ASB.

    Harden is a very high risk player. To think otherwise is foolish I don't care. He's was the best available and the Cubs are in the cat-bird seat. This trade doesn't put them over the top. They're already there.

    so now it's a burgeoning conspiracy theory? The non-subscriber article seems more like a drug-induced ramble than a well-reasoned piece of journalism. He's basically saying that all the players the A's got back could suck. Yeah, that's true. So what? So could LaPorta. And Harden could implode too. The trade was risk for risk. Period. And Beane didn't suddenly take a bottle of stupid pills, so he might want to consider that before rambling on as if he knows everything about all these players. He's a she I think. And I don't like the cheating speculation either. The Cubs aren't the only team to play well at home. She can go scissor the scissorsisters.

    I know. I was driving home from class and listening to Ron and Pat on XM. They said that Hendry was coming on and I was thinking "why?". Then Pat congratulated Hendry on the Harden deal and I yelled like a school girl. It scared my wife. Then I high fived her. And she asked what was going on. I told her and she asked if they Cubs traded Theriot. I told her no. She loves Theriot for some reason.

    I think Hendry's main weakness might also be a strength. He gives his manager the players that the manager wants. Fortunately for us Lou knows what he's doing and he does the right thing most of the time.

You cannot look at a half of a year's worth of data. Look at the runs created for their career each year. Jeter got off to a terrible start this year.

    Nope. (HR*13+(BB+HBP-IBB)*3-K*2)/IP + League Specific Constant Park factors are over played by most people anyway. The numbers for most parks outside of a few severe outliers are about the same (i.e., very small SD overall).

    Jeter and its not particularly close. Just look at the RC. It's almost laughable. Jeter is 34, appears to be on the decline, and is making $21M a year. There is just about no player I would take him over with that salary. Who said anything about salary. Jeter's decline and Theriot's incline will never meet. It's almost a joke of a question. I really don't understand the level of Jeter hate on this board. Just look at his numbers.

    Unless and until we get some people posting some inside junk from the A's equivalent to Bigbird (Big Elephant?) this thread will not approach the greatness that the Brian Roberts Thread.

    Even knowing the risks, he'd be the first guy I want the Cubs to get. I don't know if the Cubs have anything Beane would want though. I don't think Vitters can be traded yet? Pie and Colvin have little value at this point. I'd guess he might want Donaldson (is he tradeable?) and he'd surely want Sean G. The Shark might be interesting, but I just don't think Beane would want anyone outside of Sean. None of those name equate to "getting special".

    I yelled "creature" at him once in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh being Pittsburgh we had great seats, two rows in back of home plate to the Cubs side of the field (in "the Home Plate" club) so I was probably 15 feet away from him. He stopped dead in his tracks and gave me a look that took six months off my life. I'd say if he knows it, he doesn't like it.

    Hudson and Burnett are probably about equally as non-durable. probably not. Looking at their track records, I guess you're right. Either way, all 3 guys are solid options, IMO; just stay away from Wolf. Hudson has a really good track record health-wise. I'd worry about PAP with him, but he's been consistent and solid throughout his career. Seriously, I'm not worried about health. If any of those three can help get the Cubs to, and win a World Series I don't care if they do a Barbero after the win.

    Learning to play defense and not worry about hitting. He can do that if he's hitting well.

    First two innings were scoreless. Gave up a solo HR in the 3rd, a run on a squeeze in the 4th and the wheels fell off in the 5th. Disappointing...he's had 3 bad starts and 4 quality starts. Needs to stop being so inconsistent, especially when he's repeating the MWL. Wasn't he the guy doing PEDs?

    You should know :wink: Next questions, are they really going to try to move him to a starter? If so why, was he a closer in college? Are the pro scouts/the Cubs that much smarter than a college coach? It just seems kind of off to me. However, I'm no expert.

    Nifty. Are both going to Boise? The reporter (Steve Holly from Inside the Ivy) only said that Shafer would report to Mesa on Thursday, and the info on Cashner mentioned above. Is there a chance that Cashner sees the bigs this year?

    He still cannot hit a breaking pitch. When I saw him in Memphis he hit a screaming line drive about 400 feet over the left field fence. I mean that thing got out in mili-seconds. That was the last fastball he saw for the two games I went to. I don't think he had another hit and struck out at least 3 times. He's a physical specimen but has no plate discipline at all.

I misread. Shouldn't be doing two things at once. Or three for that matter. My guess is it that they are sorry to see the team as messed up as it appears to be. Somebody needs to get fired. If I were a fan the only other thing I'd be upset about is that they didn't get enough. The Yankees know that they didn't need to trade for him b/c they'll be signing him in the offseason.
