  1. The Spiders is a cool name. The uniform possibilities are outstanding.
  2. I wonder where the Ricketts want the payroll floor to be as they use the Cubs to pay for their real estate venture surrounding Wrigley and a faltering TV station. That's the thing that bothers me the most (leaving out the political stuff). The family chose to buy up the neighborhood and create a TV station now are having a cash flow problem that has little to do with the team. I suppose one could say it all goes on the balance sheet, but it doesn't.
  3. Agree, I really like him. Also, if true, the NL Central should have fecal league stats next year instead of regular stats.
  4. I'm still in shock.
  5. After living in Columbus for three years while attending OSU, I can tell you there is no worse set of fans in the country. It's not even really close. They don't even like Ohio State as much as they hate whoever they are playing that day. By and large, they are toxic horsefeathers, most of whom never went to OSU. It's not even a fun atmosphere on the campus on game day. They forced Kirk Herbstreit to move. That's how bad they are. I mean, most ________ fans didn’t go to _________ school I mean the worst ones are the ones who never went to OSU.
  6. Ohio State fans are the same. They simply want to beat everyone by 5 touchdowns every week. They have no interest in the Michigan rivalry game being close or interesting. They just want to run up the score all the time and are dissatisfied with anything less After living in Columbus for three years while attending OSU, I can tell you there is no worse set of fans in the country. 7. Lots of people are flipping out at Brett for posting the Cubs are open to trading Willie.
  8. for what it's worth, anybody who follows local chicago sports media would have heard len frequently talk about his love for radio and his desire to do radio (usually would come up when he'd be doing cubs playoff games with pat and ron) someday. it's definitely not some conveniently made up backstory unless he was playing the realllllllly long game. does that mean i think marquee's management or the ricketts had nothing to do with it? no. but i think the people viewing this story most cynically aren't locals who follow a lot of this stuff (i.e. to have heard len on his frequent radio hits, or to hear the other local guys talk about him, many who had close friendships with him like matt spiegel who played at hot stove cool music with him and stuff like that) I was mostly blowing off steam. I agree with you. Hell, he would do spring training internet radio games with the AA affiliate guy. He’s probably excited as hell. The Sox have a good young team and he’s doing what he wants. That said, the Marquee [expletive] probably made it a lot easier.
  9. I’ve decided Len left because he did not want to work for Sinclair and the Ricketts. The rest is him being who he is, a nice guy and true professional. Nothing else remotely makes sense. I will not waver from this hypothesis. horsefeathers Marquee and most of all, horsefeathers the Ricketts. I’m also drinking stouts tonight.
  10. Len is a huge historian of baseball broadcasting and reverence for it. I can see him nerding out and wanting to do radio instead of TV, but judging from the radio he does preseason and occasionally filling in for Pat, he is so much better on TV than he is on radio. If this is what he wants to do I wish him well.
  11. Yes, there has to have been a poor fit for Len at Marquee. That is the only way this makes sense. Radio is a step-down. Going from the Cubs to the Sox is a bigger step-down. Whether it has to do with an increased role with Fox or the stupidity of the three-man booth and dressing up in big boy clothes on Marquee or a mix of all of that, we will never know.
  12. It sucks.
  13. Do we know if it’s true? If so who is going to play LF? Happ?
  14. "Here's the question though. Is competing for the NL Central and hoping for luck enough in the playoffs?" This strikes me as a return to the Jim Hendry days. The playoffs are less of a crapshoot if you set the bar higher. Be that as it may, I also think it is important for a team to recognize when their window of elite caliber play is closed and to move on. It sure would have been nice to have the waves of talent, but it obviously didn't play out that way. I hope they can get good players and not just dump salary when they start moving people.
  15. More money for payroll, right PTR?
  16. It’s going to hard to judge Ross if the Cubs go into tank mode.
  17. I agree.
  18. I cannot help but think the financial problems with the Cubs and in baseball in general made this decision a little easier for him. Best decision PTR made.
  19. On to NY
  20. Do you know who I am? I'm Tony horsefeathering LaRussa.
  21. COVID still undefeated in 2020.
  22. Rick is a finalist for the manager of the year.
