  1. Especially with his uber-aggressive profile. It will be a good challenge. Like finishing sanding on a nice piece of furniture.
  2. I think it has to be Mancini. Wisdom gives you a puncher's chance at the plate. It would make 0 sense to send Amya back down, but it doesn't make sense to carry three catchers either.
  3. One of the BN guys says the Cubs are talking to the Nats about Candelareo. Meh on that.
  4. I don't think the jump from AA to AAA is as big a climb as it is from A to AA. There is a lot of filler in AAA. I'm looking for good things from him. The Cubs are generally very, almost extremely conservative in their promotions. It would be outstanding if he was doing enough to warrant a starting job next year.
  5. They already fill Wrigely and the rest is split among all the teams. His pay will be close to 25% of the way to the LT. Tom is amongst the guys who pushed the hard LT through to the owners. He and Jed have said over and over that they don't believe you can win through free agency. It would be so out of character for them to spend that kind of money on one player.
  6. They're billionaires so they can do two things at once, but he's not wrong. I imagine Wrigley will host more than one pro-fascist fundraiser.
  7. From reading the national media, it doesn't look like Alonso is going to be traded.
  8. Yes, this is the biggest series of the year, so far. I've always hated the Reds. I can remember when they were good for a bit in the 90s and their fans would invade Wrigley. They were horsefeatherss. Marty and Thom Brenneman (who spells their name that way?) were horrible. Kyle Farnsworth beat the horsefeathers out of Paul Wilson the same way the Cubs are going to take care of the Reds. De La Cruz is awesome though. Go Cubs
  9. All the prospect rankings should be taken as a rough measurement and not how people typically use them in these debates. I especially hate the FV horsefeathers. People tend to use it like it's a real number with objective anchors when it's just a wild ass guess. Having written that, the numbers and rankings aren't meaningless either. They are a useful way to order players, but the actual numbers shouldn't be taken seriously. Anyone who has watched PCA (mostly in the field) or Horton play a few games can see that they are a cut above most of the other players in their games. I'd put Alcantara in there too. I suppose that's how I would say who was elite. Kyle's argument basically boils down to known value vs. potential value. He's for the safer bet. The rest is mental masturbation.
  10. They would be making a mistake trading Alcantara unless it was for a difference maker. He’s virtually the only prospect in the entire org with that potential.
  11. I don’t know about anyone else, but I am fired up for today. I’m going to sit in my pool chair and listen to Pat and Ron and drink a few PBR tall boys.
  12. The problem is the outcome. One outcome is more probable and immediate. The other outcome is less probable and delayed. if you choose the first (buying) and it doesn’t work it causes the 2nd to be even less probable and more delayed, you’re increasing the misery index. However, I’m a bit impulsive so I always favor the impulsive choice. Let’s buy the best players we can get to make this year magic. I kind of like Theo/Kyle’s idea that every season is precious.
  13. I am so loving beating on the Cardinals. It’s so sweet.
  14. Cubs will take Alonso.
  15. I have no idea what you are trying to say.
  16. The Ricketts/Jed are not going to spend $50M a year on one player. It’s not going to happen. They will check in. They will make a bid. The bid will be well short of whatever he gets. Their mouth pieces, Lavine and Rogers will get out the good word and that will be that.
