  1. All the prospect rankings should be taken as a rough measurement and not how people typically use them in these debates. I especially hate the FV horsefeathers. People tend to use it like it's a real number with objective anchors when it's just a wild ass guess. Having written that, the numbers and rankings aren't meaningless either. They are a useful way to order players, but the actual numbers shouldn't be taken seriously. Anyone who has watched PCA (mostly in the field) or Horton play a few games can see that they are a cut above most of the other players in their games. I'd put Alcantara in there too. I suppose that's how I would say who was elite. Kyle's argument basically boils down to known value vs. potential value. He's for the safer bet. The rest is mental masturbation.
  2. They would be making a mistake trading Alcantara unless it was for a difference maker. He’s virtually the only prospect in the entire org with that potential.
  3. I don’t know about anyone else, but I am fired up for today. I’m going to sit in my pool chair and listen to Pat and Ron and drink a few PBR tall boys.
  4. The problem is the outcome. One outcome is more probable and immediate. The other outcome is less probable and delayed. if you choose the first (buying) and it doesn’t work it causes the 2nd to be even less probable and more delayed, you’re increasing the misery index. However, I’m a bit impulsive so I always favor the impulsive choice. Let’s buy the best players we can get to make this year magic. I kind of like Theo/Kyle’s idea that every season is precious.
  5. I am so loving beating on the Cardinals. It’s so sweet.
  6. Cubs will take Alonso.
  7. I have no idea what you are trying to say.
  8. The Ricketts/Jed are not going to spend $50M a year on one player. It’s not going to happen. They will check in. They will make a bid. The bid will be well short of whatever he gets. Their mouth pieces, Lavine and Rogers will get out the good word and that will be that.
  9. Someone explain to me why Smyly is pitching? I just turned on the game.
  10. From Tom and Jed's mouth straight to Jesse's ears.
  11. White Sox having a fire sale and then some
  12. Remember McGriff agonizing about coming to Chicago? horsefeathers him.
  13. I'm no expert, but I'd say more than 0 less than 1%
  14. Jed and Tom are of one mind with this stuff or Tom wouldn't have hired him after Theo left. Having said that, I have a hard time determining Ohtani's value. He's either going to get paid less than he's worth and the owner will be able to support a team enough to win or he's going to get paid what he's worth and will handcuff the team. Now before anyone starts seeing red and foaming at the mouth, we all know that almost any team could do both, but we also know the vast majority of teams won't. If he's a hard-core west coast guy, then it's the Dodgers, maybe SF. If he's open to anywhere, it's probably the Dodgers, Mets, or the Yankees. I don't think the Ricketts will be serious bidders.
  15. Who are the Cubs: Jarlin Susana - Horton (?) James Wood - Caissie (?) Rober Hassell - PCA (?) MacKenzie Gore - Wicks/Ferris (?) Taking out Abrams and Voit for Bell.
