  1. As of this week, the Bears are a very secure top 3-5 bad team. I talked to my dad last night. He tends to be on the conspiracy theory side of things when it comes to owners. He thinks the McCaskey's are simply hoarding money in anticipation of their move out of the city. Hiring incompetent people and then not spending money is a good way to do that. I'm not so sure he's entirely wrong.
  2. I don't necessarily disagree, but the way it is calculated now leads some people to make posts or think like Dereood apparently does. More to my point, hitting HR is an incredibly valuable skill that is extremely important in the current MLB environment. I think there is a some amount (maybe a lot in some cases), of measurement error when it comes to defensive value. Schwarber is a bad LF, there is not doubt about that. I don't know what to do about guys who play significant games at multiple positions. There is value in that ability in itself (except for if DH is the other position).
  3. For argument sake, let's say they are 0 wins (0-7) going into the LA Chargers game, do they fire the OC? Bench Fields? Nothing?
  4. Maybe WAR needs some remodeling? Especially for position and defense. Everything needs to be set to 0 by position so you aren't comparing position players playing different positions by defense value. We all know a SS is a more valuable defensive player than say a 1B, it doesn't need to be baked into the system. A guy like Swanson should be compared to other SS, not a RF. Schwarber is an incredibly valuable player.
  5. Bears remaining schedule @ KC (easy loss) Denver (toss up) @ Washington (loss) Minnesota (loss) Las Vegas (toss up) @ LA Chargers (loss) @ NOLA (loss) Carolina (winnable game) @ Detroit (loss) Minnesota (loss) Detroit (loss) @ Cleveland (loss) Pheonix (winnable game) Atlanta (winnable game) @ GB (duh) If they win all the toss ups and winnable games they will be 5-12.
  6. I don't thing you are wrong. It's crazy that they can botch this stuff so bad every time.
  7. If Saban loses to Kiffin, the calls for retirement are going to start to get loud. People around here are already whispering it. Saban's power was recruiting and hiring really good assistants. It' is waning.
  8. He's the star that Jed and Co. targeted this offseason. That's an indictment in itself. The first warning sign is when a good organization chooses to move on from a player. But there are always teams like the Cubs to throw a lot of money at "leadership" skills.

  10. I was at that game. The dude that hit it went to hit like three more for the rest of his brief career in baseball.
  11. Only if he gets injured.
  12. It’s not a Fields issue. It’s a coaching issue. Very few QBs come into the league as a finished product. Fields is the same player he was when they drafted him. I have a hard time believing he’s not coachable and it not getting rumored out.
  13. Get comfortable boys, this is going to be a horsefeathers show for three more months. And then the off-season and the season, and the off-season and season after that. Might be the worst GM hire since Matt Millen. Maybe worse when all is said and done.
  14. I’m not going to make it to this game. Early teal season starts tomorrow
  15. There are a lot of hot Dougs in the RF bleachers?
  16. I don't care for Alabama, but I have a lot of respect for the way Saban runs his program. These kids come to Alabama and every one of them is a star. He does not care. But the other and more interesting thing is that he's slipping or I should say the system has changed in a way that talent is more evenly distributed across the big time football environment. He used to be able to rely on talent and his coaching staff to win and now that's not as pronounced an advantage as it once was.
  17. Alabama is starting a different QB this week. I kind of expected that after the poor play against Texas.
  18. sully must have gotten kicked off of Twitter because I haven't seen him tweet anything.
  19. Those ads make me very much less likely to drink Sam Adams and appreciate anything from or around New England. It's like the advertising agency who made them hate Sam Adams beer so much they tricked them into thinking the ads would make people buy their product.
  20. Because they are nepobabies with no knowledge of the industry. The Ricketts lucked into Theo or the Cubs would be in the same spot. I assume after some period of time the Cubs will be in the same spot. They will have to luck their way into the right hire.
  21. Bellinger is 28 and some team is going to offer him a 5-year deal. It's likely the team will be upside down by the end of it, but that is the nature of FA. I have no idea what to think about the Japanese pitcher. However, I'd be leary of any long term deal just from the pitchers tend to break perspective. I trust Jed and his team to evaluate and get who they target. They most often do. I tend to think that a lot of the Cubs' plans hinge on what Stroman intends to do.
  22. Wow. That did not take long. I wonder if Jed is going to be a candidate.
  23. Aren’t they playing Atlanta at home?
