Jed and his team believe they are on the precipice of a truly great team fueled by young players and a state-of-the-art development program. They are patiently building what they think to be a solid team that will compete within the division with aspirations for more soon (could be this year). I get frustrated too, as a fan. I hope they are right. And if they are not, I hope the Ricketts sacks the lot of them. I don't think that will happen as the people running the Cubs are philosophically aligned with ownership. We have to wait and see what happens.

Any scenario where Fields is still on the team is a bad scenario if they want to win games next year.

I agree. I was never that hot for Bellinger given that they cannot move Happ or Suzuki over the next three years. Chapman does not make the offense better and might make it worse if he and Swanson go cold at the same time. Besides they are apparently asking for difference maker type money for a guy who isn't really that.

According to BN the Cubs may have signed a Blake Weiman LHP (any relation to Bert Weiman?) to a minor league deal.

I think that is a dangerous bet that I wouldn't want to make if I were Poles. The talent distribution is too thin. At some point, they need to start winning more than losing. They can do that next year if Willams is the QB he is supposed to be.

I think it comes down to which player(s) come down from their salary demands first and foremost. And even then Jed may not like what he reads/sees. Maybe if they can get a discount in years with a high yearly salary or something.

Similar stance and swing. The way they run. The joy with which they play. Obviously Clemente was a world class outfielder and all time great. I’m just talking about their stance and swing and personality.

Brett has a note that says the Angels are talking to Boras about Bellinger. Might be a plant, but if any org is going to overextend itself for a player like Bellinger, it's the Angels.

that's really the point of pointing this out. I think the bullpen was poorly managed by Ross, but there is a chicken/egg thing going on. The genesis of this line of argument was that the pen wasn't the reason why the Cubs didn't make the playoffs. Maybe not THE reason, but the most important reason.
