  1. let cubbiebum write articles for it, now that the good people of williston, north dakota are no longer getting his hot takes.
  2. that probably happens just about never. new people are generally only scolded/mocked when their opinions are patently moronic. maybe THOSE people are unlikely to return, but i highly doubt that most people on this board are hoping that this turns into a cubs.com message board, or the equivalent of facebook comments on cubs news.
  3. espn is actually really heavily involved in cricket. their cricket website is the most popular one in the world, and they regularly do commentary and analysis from matches in cricket-playing countries. it's a pretty good thing to be involved in, considering how popular it is in pretty big and/or wealthy countries (england, australia, india, pakistan, south africa). that being said, i have no idea why they'd air stuff about the world cup in the US, since the only people in america who give a [expletive] about cricket are ex-pats from cricket-crazy countries.
  4. yeah it's not like it's some surprise that baez might not make enough contact to be a decent major league player. this has always been a possibility for him. it would be disappointing, but having 6-7 top 50 hitting prospects (bryant, soler, baez, russell, alcantara, schwarber, arguably almora) reaching the high minors within 3 years means you're very likely to end up with some good cheap bats even when accounting for injuries and prospect attrition.
  5. i have a mental block on fowler's last name and keep referring to him as dexter morgan.
  6. .290 batting average seems crazy optimistic given that he struck out in almost one-third of his at bats last season.
  7. 261/315/312 in aaa last year. no thanks. i think he'd hit okay in the majors (he has pretty good plate discipline so he's not likely to go junior lake in the majors), plus he's a good defender, which they probably could use in late innings since coghlan is atrocious in LF and metrics haven't been all that kind to morgan in CF.
  8. szczur should make it as a 5th outfielder.

  10. just firing this up for his arrival ~late april after the inevitable destruction of the pacific coast league for a couple of weeks.
  11. what is possible, though, is that a team had both an executive and a manager interviewed, and neither one picked trout. i'm looking at you, phillies.
  12. so three executives/managers didn't have mike trout as one of their three most coveted players in baseball. what. the. actual. [expletive]. 15 what? 18 executives/managers total and trout had 15 votes = 3 executives/managers didn't vote for him.

  14. It's not the 12 games that's a concern, it's the extra year Bryant has to wait to be paid fair market value. Right, and it would also be more than 12 games in order to keep up appearances. Maybe I'm overreacting to Tony Clark's comments and overestimating the power of the PA in this situation, I don't know. I do worry about a potential grievance. Could be irrational on my part. the players negotiated and agreed to the CBA, which included the stuff about service time. they'll send him to iowa and he'll get some playing time in left field, so the cubs can say they sent him down to work on positional flexibility. boras gonna boras, but they won't file a grievance.
  15. A: giancarlo stanton B: edwin encarnacion, miguel cabrera C: paul goldschmidt, george springer, jay bruce D: mark trumbo, bryce harper, carlos gonzalez, hanley ramirez, robinson canoe WC: will PM
  16. based on? They now project Bryant to hit 60 home runs. seems a little low.

  19. russell would be on very few opening day rosters, for the same reason that bryant won't be on the cubs' opening day roster.
  20. [expletive] it, I'll take the over. i'll take the over... just in spring training.
  21. obviously because who the [expletive] wastes their time with stupid ass bunts when you have a good hitter hitting instead of the awful pitcher somewhere davearm2 just started twitching
