  1. so we pretty much need to score in the 8th inning because we are not scoring off chapman.
  2. 2 throwing errors for bryant tonight #-o
  3. i feel like it would be embarrassing for them to go get the ball from your first major league hit, when you've been playing in the major leagues for 10 years.
  4. why would you grow out a beard if it's going white at age 37? c'mon ross.
  5. I'm not drinking by the second inning so far this season, so that's good. the biggest difference for me is that i'm actually watching the baseball games rather than just cruising over to see the box score after looking through the minor league box scores first.
  6. that might be the worst pickoff throw i've ever seen
  7. terrible two strike pitch to frazier :x
  8. myrtle beach rained out. shoulda stayed in daytona. south bend are also in a rain delay (in dayton), but should be able to start pretty soon.
  9. Go Flyers! In the McDavid lottery, I mean.
  10. no, i want to keep him down until (a) he's had long enough in the minors where he's had sustained success in the upper minors, and (b) he represents a likely upgrade over the current players on the major league roster. if that takes until april or may of next year, so be it.
  11. i don't believe the full season at a level, but addison russell hasn't even had a full season above A-ball. at least if he plays in iowa until june, then he will have had a full season of advanced minor league play. and it's stupid to not care about super 2 cutoffs, given that it could save many millions of dollars down the line, and it's especially stupid to not care being that russell may not even represent an upgrade for this season over what's presently on the roster. also, considering that boras is his agent, he's very unlikely to sign a team-friendly long term deal. if calling him up earlier makes it more likely that he's going to spend a year or year and a half being mediocre, like bogaerts and profar have done, then i'd much prefer to leave him in iowa, and get more of his peak while not blowing a lot of his cheap years as he figures out how to hit major league pitching.
  12. i guess that's a somewhat defensible position if the person saying this stuff managed to sleep through the entire 2014 season.
  13. dong videos: russell - terrible pitch, pitcher missed his spot by a foot and a half and russell did what you're supposed to do to those mistakes: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=71514483&sid=milb bryant - opposite field line drive off a pretty good knee-high pitch. pitcher missed a little bit out over the plate, was trying to go down and in and left it over the middle of the plate. just crazy to regularly drive pitches like this 400 feet the other way: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=71519983&sid=milb
  14. is it your position that addison russell would outproduce a strict coghlan/denorfia platoon in LF, with szczur playing for denorfia occasionally and regularly acting as a late-inning defensive replacement for coghlan? because i sure doubt that he would outproduce that group, and that's not even taking into account the possible negative impact of rushing a blue-chip prospect to the major leagues after fewer than 300 plate appearances against advanced minor league pitching. the potential benefit for this season would be quite marginal, certainly not to the point where i'd feel like it's necessary to bring up russell before the super two deadline. coghlan/denorfia/szczur should be pretty good in LF; there's no reason to act like it's a junior lake-esque black hole that's seriously damaging the team's short-term ability to win.
  15. The point would probably be that we're giving regular playing time to Chris Coghlan and Mike Olt. olt's playing time is obviously going to decrease drastically within the next two weeks. coghlan is extremely likely to hit RHP better than addison russell at this stage of their careers, not to mention that one only has to look at profar or bogaerts (or closer to home, baez and alcantara) to know that sometimes top prospects really do not hit much in their first year in the majors.
  16. Had he not gotten hurt, there was a chance, albeit small, that he saw the bigs last year. Him coming up soon wouldn't be a huge shock or really all that premature. right, but he did get hurt, and missed almost half of last season. i mean, 70 games above A-ball is not a lot, and he walked only 9 times in 50 games with tennessee last year. xander bogaerts looked like just as good a prospect in 2012-13, certainly "looked ready," and he's been bad offensively in late 2013 and all of 2014. i prefer giving guys a full year in AA/AAA rather than bringing them up because they look like they've got it all figured out.
  17. Sounds likely. I don't know if the new system makes it harder to see what your roster looked like on prior days. But if you can do that and figure out the points you lost, we can add them back. i also feel like it subtracted points for me having too many players on the bench, which i did so that i wouldn't go over the number of starts (which ended up happening anyway, because cj wilson somehow ended up playing for me today). but i should have this many points for the week, since i didn't make any position player adjustments: yadier molina: 3.75 paul goldschmidt: 30 jason kipnis: 12 longoria: 18.25 lowrie: 16.5 granderson: 8.25 kemp: 20.75 trumbo: 8.50 martinez: 9.25 j benoit: 6.50 s miller: 21.50 (1 start) sanchez: 30 (1 start) shields: 42 (2 starts) teheran: 41.5 (2 starts) cj wilson: 35.5 (1 start) that adds up to 304.25, i think. but at the very least, i need yesterday's stats added onto my score (they were definitely not added, because my weekly score only shows teheran and shields as having gotten one start each for the week - so both of their saturday starts were omitted). saturday stats: molina: 3.00 goldschmidt: 7.75 kipnis: 3.00 longoria: 3.00 lowrie: 0.25 granderson: 1.00 kemp: 7.75 trumbo: 2.75 martinez: 0.75 shields: 27.00 teheran: 21.50 if you can at least add in the saturday stats and subtract the cj wilson start today, i'll end up close to the score i was supposed to get, and win my match for the week.
  18. i don't see the point of rushing addison russell. he's 21 years old, is the third youngest player in the PCL and has a half season under his belt above A-ball. he should probably spend at least half this season in the minors.
  19. this is why i can't wait for bryant and schwarber. any weather is dong weather for those types. I think Soler and probably Rizzo fall into that category as well. i know soler's raw power grades out as like 7-7.5 but i don't think it has translated as well to game situations, at least to this point of his career. bryant grades out at like 7.5 but gets every bit of it during games. rizzo and schwarber are probably a shade below, maybe 6.5. anyway, all of those guys will be beneficial for beating the wind-blowing-in blues.
  20. this is why i can't wait for bryant and schwarber. any weather is dong weather for those types.
  21. so if we win our next game against cincy, that would be our first time 2 games over .500 since [expletive] 2009? Jesus that is bad.
