  1. i would also like some [expletive] accountability in the system. if you're going to overturn that call, show us after the game how the person reviewing the replay conclusively determined that rizzo was out.
  2. why have instant replay if you're going to let some inconclusive replays stand and overturn other ones? i'm all for replay, but apply it consistently and correctly. that was awful.
  3. we've had a couple of challenges that were not overturned due to inconclusive evidence, even though the call probably was wrong. exact same thing here and they call him out. [expletive] pathetic.
  4. Two grounders and a bunt. now he's 4-4 with a double. fly ball double.
  5. what, that their 1 in 5 chance of winning the lottery didn't pan out? do you know how probabilities work? if there was a result that the nhl didn't want, it was probably to have a supposed one-in-10-year superstar to end up in edmonton. the two guys from this draft who everyone thinks will end up as superstars will end up in edmonton and buffalo, haha.
  6. almora 3-3 (all singles) with a stolen base. gleyber torres walked again (but also has struck out twice).
  7. Same. Just love his stuff. love his stuff. don't love the arm injury that will inevitably come from throwing so many sliders. but i guess the padres are wise to get a lot of good pitching from him, for cheap, before his arm explodes.
  8. both of which kingman achieved precisely once in his 16 year MLB career. his bWAR was 17.3, which means that over the course of his career he was barely over a 1 win player. needless to say, we'll all be a little disappointed if bryant turns into that.
  9. gleyber torres 5 walks in 8 games... me likey.
  10. Maybe he's still getting used to coming out of the pen/adjusting his routine? Idk, I'm looking for something. 2ks and a GO after that start tells me his stuff is likely fine or close to it (i.e. he's not broken). i'm more concerned about the loss of command. nearly half his pitches were balls, and his command was decidedly worse after he came back from injury last year than it had been in the lower minors.
  11. How can we arrange it so that Schlitter never faces a hitter in a high leverage situation, ever again? Or just never faces another hitter ever, that would also work.
  12. That's what makes the hate so strong. If they make Bryant share the retirement with Grace like they did with Jenkins/Maddux, I'm going to be really annoyed. I was definitely a fan back then. .400 OBP FFS. who cared about obp in the 1990s?!?

  14. i love it. none of the breaking a player in by batting him low in the lineup, like most managers would do. he's a masher, hit him cleanup. good work maddon.
  15. well the cubs have retired the numbers of 5 of the top 7 players (in WAR) in franchise history. #1 was cap anson, who played a thousand years ago and who also happened to be one of the top players in the game in BARR (Bigotry Above Replacement Racist). #6 was sammy sosa, and we all know that story. mark grace checks in at #16, behind such luminaries as rick reuschel, clark griffith and carlos zambrano. so i'd say that grace's number is not too likely to be retired.

  17. apparently there is not enough bleach in the world to get another business to move in there.
  18. Don't they project to get on base at about the same rate? At best it's marginal? bryant will walk more, i'm assuming. i guess it's up to how well bryant can hit for average - he hit for higher average in the minors, but he also projects to strike out significantly more than soler.
  19. are we talking about how hyped they were or how good they projected to be as major leaguers? we could also include derek jeter, who was still a prospect going into 1996.
  20. a few names submitted for consideration: delmon young justin upton mark teixeira josh beckett pat burrell corey patterson ben grieve jd drew vlad guerrero a-rod ruben rivera chipper jones kerry wood
  21. puig wasn't that highly regarded.
