  1. jesse jackson wants to know why barry bonds is being indicted on these charges, but not rafael palmeiro.
  2. .659 career home OPS .849 career away OPS he swings at too much and doesn't draw enough walks, but he's still a mile better than any of the trash that we have available at SS.
  3. boy i am pretty down on samardzija, moreso than most, and i'd definitely have him in my top 20
  4. what were AZPhil's top 10? I think I missed this.
  5. my bad, misunderstood what we were talking about. daniels is surely digging his own grave.
  6. i always wonder if there isn't something a little racist about the "nba is full of criminals" comments
  7. he walked 4 guys per 9 innings last year... i'm not saying he's not a pretty special prospect, but to say he's definitely going to be better than a guy who was one of the best pitchers in the AL last year within 3 years is really stretching it. If you asked me if I'd rather have Bedard or Kershaw from this point on, money being no object, I'd take Bedard. There are plenty of ways for a 19 year old pitching prospect to not turn into a very good major league pitcher.
  8. henry blanco is kind of a pioneer, apparently
  9. maybe, but when a team wins that many games over their pyth, maybe the manager isn't a bad person to get credit for some of that
  10. Jon Daniels for worst sabermetric GM EVER! no way, i'm sticking with coletti on this one. Though Dave Littlefield would've been a strong runner in this race if he hadn't been fired.
  11. hey i wonder who voted for ucla-usc :?:
  12. good to see tom hicks still knows how to piss money away
  13. hopefully can keep his composure during the big OU-Texas Tech game.
  14. boy i'm glad i assumed that pie would be a bust last year, that's going to make all of this so much less disappointing
  15. oh yeah i'm on the "stop moving all our good pitching prospects to the bullpen" bandwagon
  16. God I hope not... did anyone really enjoy Todd Hollandsworth's production from a corner outfielder?
  17. i was fine with arguing for rich hill's greatness before he was great, but i didn't think i'd have to continue arguing for it after he became great. i'd say you're being fairly liberal with the use of "great" here, and you know i'm one of rich's biggest fans on this board
  18. You would be wrong. Bedard has taken the mantle of best lefty in baseball not named Johan Santana title. MacPhail and company might not be the sharpest tools in the shed. But Kershaw with all his value doesn't equal bedard in a 1 for 1. Cole Hamels? if the question is "what lefthanded starter for the phillies was definitely not as good as eric bedard in 2007" then you've got the right answer.
  19. btw, between the torre stuff and now the two-faced response to the ARod issue, i'd say that Hal Steinbrenner is shaping up to be just as effective an evil villain as his father is/was.
  20. What happened during the Penn St/Purdue game? I havent heard anything controversial from that game. they were going to suspend them for THAT? pretty lame. The biggest issue in that game was a play where the Purdue player got out of bounds late in the 4th quarter, but the official called him in bounds, and Purdue was forced to use a timeout. The officiating wasn't perfect in that game, but I've seen some Big Ten officiating in the past five years that was mind-boggling in how bad it was. The conference picks the Penn State-Purdue game as the game that merits suspension of an officiating crew? What a joke.
  21. oh yeah, i know a couple of auburn fans and a couple of alabama fans, and those teams friggin HATE each other. A lot of people outside of SEC country probably don't realize how heated that rivalry is.
  22. I'm not sure how this doesn't exclude the Michigan-Ohio State game. Fans of both programs expect their team to compete for a national championship every year. A lot of Michigan fans want Lloyd Carr gone after this season. While it's true that he's had trouble beating Tressel, they also have struggled in bowl games recently, and haven't really contended for a national title since the mid '90s (unless you count last year). My pick was Army-Navy. Here are some reasons why... You also have the president attending the game, switching sides at halftime. Navy stamps "BEAT ARMY" on the weights in their locker room, and those words were also on the tile at the bottom of one of the natatorium's pools. The Army-Navy game is meaningful even if both teams come into the game winless; I don't think many people would care about Michigan-Ohio State if both teams completely sucked. I guess I just like all the tradition and the mutual respect in the Army-Navy rivalry, so that was my choice.
  23. A lot of Texas fans consider OU to be their biggest rival now. And as someone knowing people from both the USMA and USNA, I can assure you that the Army-Navy game is the most important game of the year for both teams. The Notre Dame game will probably be much tougher for Navy to win than the Army game will be, but I would guess that if you'd asked everyone on Navy's football team who they'd rather beat this year, at least 90% would've said Army.
  24. The Cubs could hire a dozen Asian personal assistants for Fukudome at a lot less money than paying Matsui. Plus a couple Japanese massage therapists. wonder if they'll write the "happy ending" into Fukudome's contract
