  1. i'm not too anxious. i assume that if we sign him, we'll overpay him and he'll turn out to be a bum. if someone else signs him, he'll turn out to be a star.
  2. it's too big to pick up and you're not allowed to use silverware if you're doing the pub challenge (finish it in an hour), so you just reach in and grab handfuls of whatever, and stuff them in your mouth. it's 2 lbs of beef plus another 1.5 lbs of bread and fixins... i ate about 70% of it in the hour.
  3. Here, have a cheeseburger: http://www.bromsgrovecf.org.uk/images/BBMEB.jpg hey i've been there, and i ate that: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/poolboybob/scan0001.jpg
  4. I like this. yeah unfortunately hendry considers kaz matsui is considered a "level above" guy, so the good idea of not settling for scrubs is torpedoed by the fact that a scrub was one of the main targets.
  5. if the cubs had used him as a setup man instead of trying to make him a closer, he'd probably have been really good for us, just like he was for the twins
  6. Let's see.... Mark DeRosa falls under this. There are a certain couple of relievers who received lucrative, multi-year contracts a couple years ago as well. howry was good for a couple of years before we signed him and has been a pretty good reliever for most of his career... you'd have a hard time finding anyone who would say that the howry signing wasn't a very good one for the cubs. the eyre signing, on the other hand, was idiotic.
  7. TLR can really be a dick sometimes.
  8. maybe they're hiring him so that he'll make suggestions, and then we'll do the opposite. that might actually work...
  9. you underestimate the meddling incompetence of peter angelos...
  10. He could also try learning english here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q79U3KafaXs (warning: a couple of bad words)
  11. you're really going to be pleasantly surprised with NSBB
  12. He's a good talent, but old. He stayed in school at Miami (of all places) to get his aeronautical engineering degree. He's actually a good candidate to stay on the DL for most of the year as he blew out his knee. Miami is a pretty good academic school... the most visible part of the university, the football team, really brings its reputation down. But it's definitely ahead of UF and FSU academically.
  13. St. Joe's is a solid team, nice win there Truffle. yeah this year is the best example of what a great coach Ralph Willard is. We graduated our two best players in May, and are still playing at a very high level, because a number of players on this year's team have improved by leaps and bounds. Adam May, who Ralph once described by saying he's "so bad defensively he couldn't cover a chair," is now a decent defensive player and is giving solid production down the offensive end. I don't see us losing only one game in PL play, but the team is already pretty far ahead of where I thought they'd be.
  14. great win for the purple and white as we beat St. Joe's on the road (sorry CT). Now we have 2.5 weeks off as it's finals period - Patriot League basketball players actually have to attend real classes and do their own work, so they need the study time.
  15. I'm glad somebody is watching them! Why are the Flyers on watch? too many dirty hits resulting in suspensions as an example of a bad call yesterday, danny briere got a roughing penalty for roughing himself against the ice in the first period.
  16. boy the flyers are definitely "on watch" by the nhl - the officiating in last night's game was atrocious and resulted in about 5 unwarranted power plans for the wild. thankfully we won anyway.
  17. say it ain't So...
  18. I don't think it will be tonight. MacPhail, I'm sure, would have to run it by the owner since Markakis and Roberts are 1-2 on the owner's list of player favorites. hopefully bedard and tejada kicked angelos' dog or banged his daughter, and he's just desperate to unload them for anything.
  19. hey remember how the tigers traded for a great hitter and a decent starting pitcher, and did so without subtracting much from their big league team? let's try that when we trade; i.e., don't trade Hill, Soto or any other young player big league player that other teams are interested in. Pie I'd sell now if necessary, before he proves to suck once and for all.
  20. if i'm the twins, there's no way this deal goes down without either ellsbury or buchholz, if not both. And I'd really, really push hard for Ellsbury. Ellsbury, Crisp (why is he considered a valuable trade piece? he's not that good), Michael Bowden and either Jed Lowrie or Lars Anderson - preferably Lowrie given the Twins' need for middle infield help. That gets it done if I'm the Twins.
  21. i'd just like to say that it is hilarious the cubs get almost a first round pick for losing washed-up jason kendall
  22. btw espn is reporting that les miles just took a dump and there was some corn in his stool. more les miles news coming up in 5 minutes.
  23. if the cubs' scouts think sam fuld is some sort of star in the making, then they're even more incompetent than i thought they were
