  1. there's also dodger stadium and angel stadium - neither bearing a corporate name. my point is, a team like the cubs does not have to put a corporate name on the ballpark to be one of the larger-revenue teams in the game.
  2. Your basketball team isn't very good. You're right. We suck. Beaten more ranked teams than you have. wow 1-0... we'll see how good ole miss is once conference play begins. i'm guessing "not very"
  3. What happened? sabres defenseman took forever to get a puck that the flyers had shot down the other end, and took a really indirect route to the puck. he basically could've gotten to the puck easily before it got past the end line, and icing should've been waved off. that entire referee crew was terrible. eric furlatt - i don't know who the hell he is, but he is just an awful ref. there have been multiple times this year when he's been much farther away from the puck than another ref, but ended up calling a completely bogus penalty from his (poorer) point of view.
  4. hey great, the refs probably just cost us a point because they don't know what icing is.
  5. doesn't look like ucla has a whole lot of confidence in rasshan's passing ability
  6. meh, we lost in OT to siena. they're not bad -- they did top stanford earlier this year -- but the rust of not playing in 3 weeks clearly showed. guess it isn't a huge deal, but we shouldn't lose more than one more non-conf game
  7. That's a statement beyond stupid. Food for thought. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/facetious Food for thought. facetious is the only word in the english language that has all of the vowels appearing in order. true story.
  8. hey what do the two MLB teams with the highest payrolls in baseball have in common? they haven't sold off the naming rights to their ballparks. the cubs are based in the third most populous city in the nation, have a national fan base, and will have a team payroll higher than 80% of the league. They don't need to sell off the name to be competitive. They need non-idiots running the team. A good GM and good ownership will win games with or without whoring out the name of the ballpark.
  9. ads on the outfield wall, lights on the grandstands... some things i can adjust to it's wrigley field. certain places - wrigley, fenway, yankee stadium - cannot be [expletive] out.
  10. uh michigan didn't just roll over, they played a better team. michigan has consistently struggled against more talented, more athletic teams, and that's what usc was. or has michigan just been rolling over in every bowl game for the past several years?
  11. boy first florida state and now ohio state?!?!? who woulda thunk it?
  12. It's Wisconsin is a pretty good way Wisconsin is 9-3 in their last 12 bowl games. I don't know why they do so well in bowls, but they do, and sometimes they even beat the invincible SEC.
  13. clemson is, as always, playing a piss-poor OOC schedule. Ole Miss hasn't exactly run a fearsome gauntlet either.
  14. blanton is #3 on a bad team... most good teams should have a better #3 than him.
  15. it's always fun watching duke lose
  16. You did miss that part, and also the part about the guy we had playing 2B last year not being able to repeat his production from last year. sounds familiar to what was said about him last year Even if DeRosa repeats, Roberts is a superior player. Click me Agreed that Roberts is the better player, but I'm thinking that DeRosa isn't going to play SS, in which case we're giving away trading chips for a marginal upgrade at 2B. The real upgrades need to be either at SS (preferably) or CF.
  17. i apparently have an irrational love for pitchers who are minimal injury risks and put up average or slightly above-average numbers outside of the strikeout column.
  18. i think i missed the part where brian roberts became a really good baseball player and not just slightly better than the guy we had playing second base last year.
  19. by the way, ted lilly at $1M per year less than silva is quite the bargain. well it's either a bargain or the mariners are pissing way too much money away on a mediocre pitcher.
  20. i don't like him because the cubs are, as an organization, terrible at developing position players, and really terrible when it comes to guys who have questionable plate discipline. Pie strikes out at a pretty high rate and his weaknesses in his plate discipline and approach will, I believe, be exploited by pitchers at the big league level.
  21. whip the last 4 years: 1.328, 1.766, 1.439, 1.328 meh
  22. yeah beane is no idiot; he knows blanton's worth. trading for him would not be cheap.
