  1. Really? Wishing injury? To be fair, getting Ronny in over Theriot would project to improve the team by a few wins over the course of a season. Theriot seems like a real nice guy and all, but the least he could do is take one disabling injury for the team. unless ronny hits like he did in 2006, in which case you'd lose more games with him in the lineup. Except that he's not projected to do that at all, is he? yeah and i'm pretty sure that he wasn't projected to hit that way the first time either. that's the thing about projections, sometimes they're wrong.
  2. great weekend for the flyers, beat the islanders on saturday and then blew out ottawa 6-1 on sunday. scott hartnell couldn't score on a prostitute earlier this year, and now he's got something like 10 goals in the last 7 games. big game coming up on tuesday against the hated devils.
  3. The Colts did until perhaps the very end, and they have one less pass rusher at DE than the Giants do. I'm unsure if the Giants did or not, I only saw the last few minutes. the colts got some pressure on brady, but not it wasn't like he was consistently throwing under heat. the giants did not get much pressure; brady was 32-42 for 350 yards in that game, and the giants only got one sack. their offensive line is too good to be beaten by 4 pass rushers unless you somehow manage to get bruce smith, reggie white, l.t. and warren sapp in their prime. if you want to have a chance you have to blitz.
  4. nobody will get consistent pressure against the pats by just rushing their front four.

  6. then in football season you can just take out the "small" part...genius!
  7. i look forward to watching the pats pound the vagiants in the super bowl

  9. ryan pickett is a fat bastard
  10. domo arigato mister roboto
  11. and after three games, holy cross has lost three times as many PL games as all of last year. we're circling the drain big-time.
  12. this is true, his skills were underrated because he struck out a lot, and his numbers were somewhat weighted down by comerica park before they moved the fences in. yeah, he's not as good as he was last year (when he probably among the top 5 hitters in all of baseball) but he was already a pretty good hitter before that, and has a career line of .258/.365/.509/.874 against RHP. Sit him against tough lefties and play him against everyone else, and you'll definitely get your money's worth.
  13. yeah, and al leiter was still a very good pitcher. trading hill is dumb because he's not paid very much and has never been much of an injury risk. if he were getting paid the same amount as bedard, then it's not a bad move, but bedard is probably looking at somewhere in the range of $18M total over the next two years, whereas rich hill will be about 20% of that number. add in roberts, and you're tacking on about $13M in salary each of the next two years. Are Bedard and Roberts worth more than Hill, Pie, DeRosa (who would be replaced by Roberts) and $13M? i sure don't think so.
  14. yeah just saw that on NHL.com, it was ridiculous. although I'd say Toews' goal was better. :) that's b/c you're a hawks fan. the nash goal was definitely the better of the two. ovechkin's goal from a couple of years ago (i think) is the best i've seen in quite some time.
  15. wtg lsu fans!!!
  16. just watched it on nhl.com... that was awesome.
  17. not even close. william eckert was inept. so was fay vincent. bowie kuhn was responsible for the curt flood lawsuit (reserve clause) and plenty of labor strife. kenesaw mountain landis did some good things, but was a racist who held back the integration of the game for 25 years.
  18. that's insane. 0.737 WHIP, and Fenway is a HITTER'S park. he was lucky that year - BABIP against was only .237 - but his numbers were just completely ridiculous. I remember that stretch of years from '97 to '03, if he was pitching, you really wanted to watch the game. especially in '99 and '00. one of those games was great in '99, i remember even the yankee fans were in awe, he went into yankee stadium and pitched a 17 strikeout game, with a home run by chili davis the only hit against. The only other baserunner reached on a HBP. Here are some of his starts that year: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K 7.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 12 K 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 10 K 9 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 17 K 9 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 15 K 9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K 8 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 10 K 8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 12 K 9 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 15 K 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 11 K 9 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 9 K 8 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 9 K 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 13 K 8 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 11 K 8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K I mean, a lot of guys in baseball don't have that many great starts in a career... he did it in a season. A couple more fun facts: -BR explains sOPS+ as "OPS+ of this split relative to the major league OPS for this split." So basically it's the OPS+ against a given pitcher. His sOPS+ overall was 21 Against LHP he had a line against of .150/.190/.216/.406 for an sOPS+ of 1
  19. buchholz.. he's more of a known quantity because he's thrown almost 300 innings in the minors; joba came through the minors with less than 100 ip. plus joba is more of an injury risk, and he's fat.
  20. ugh, holy cross is in trouble. we crapped the bed last night, losing to army at home, 53-39. pissed the ball away 22 times. our starting pg is hurt, our starting forward is playing hurt and is pretty ineffective, and the 6th man (usually plays 20+ minutes) is also hurt. need to get healthy or the season might be lost.
  21. even though it doesn't belong on the list, ted williams' season at age 38 is damn impressive: .388/.526/.731, 233 OPS+ and this was in an era when players just didn't stay good into their late 30s... they didn't have workout regimen and steroids that today's players have
  22. mcgwire's 70 hr season has to be mentioned at least.
  23. they'll slow down once the alien departs... the alien that has taken over the body of ty conklin and turned him from a mediocre AHL player to a brick wall.
