  1. oh good Lord. i hope this doesn't become a popular sentiment. i might seriously go crazy if that happens. Then you had better get your prozac ready. Your bias blinds you. Does Eli owe you money? are you kidding? here's a list of QBs that played as well, or better, in the super bowl. I'll only go back a few years... Peyton Manning, 2007 Tom Brady, 2005 Tom Brady, 2004 (Brady was 32/48, 356 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT - i'm not sure how you can say Manning was better than this) Jake Delhomme, 2004 Brad Johnson, 2003 Kurt Warner, 2000 John Elway, 1999 Brett Favre, 1998 Brett Favre, 1997
  2. i don't really hate eli manning. i hate some guys on the giants, and i hate the giants as a team, but i don't hate manning. i just know that he's not that good. and yeah, the eli had a better supporting cast than grossman did last year. the giants have: -a pro bowl caliber receiver -a pro bowl caliber TE -running backs are a wash -better offensive line, especially in pass protection -a competent offensive coordinator the worst part of this game, i think we can all agree, is that mercury morris and all those douchebags from the '72 dolphins are going to be all over the airwaves for the next two weeks, and we'll probably be hearing from them every year until they kick the bucket.

  4. probably, which is too bad, because he's not good. He's not? Rank in QB rating the last 4 years (among eligible QBs): 2007: 25th of 33 2006: 18th of 32 2005: 23rd of 34 2004: not eligible, but had a worse rating than every eligible QB in the league. So yeah, he's not good.
  5. vomit. he overthrew burress on what should've been a big play down the sideline. that pass down the right side was a few inches from being picked off. the wounded duck to tyree was an awful pass that happened to settle into the right place. i think he threw another ball high down the middle early in the drive that was dangerous. they put up his stats, and yeah they were excellent, but he completed a number of easy passes, got lucky on another big one, took a bad sack, and thew several risky passes that he was lucky to not have picked off. this wasn't elway's 98 yard drive, it was a quarterback playing average football and getting very fortunate. let's not go overboard (which unfortunately is going to happen)

  7. no kidding. amazing how many of my giant fan friends - many of whom pretty much gave up on their team after the first two games this year, and said they weren't watching any more games - crawled out of their holes to text me after tonight's game. or my roommate, who asked me how the eagles are doing. i dunno vic, how are the lions doing, since that was your favorite team up until about two years ago. just what we needed... new yorkers getting more arrogant and obnoxious. bad times.
  8. manning tried to throw about 5 INTs on that last drive, and they managed to either find their way into a WR's hands or just go off the fingertips of a pats defender. the play where the immobile eli somehow managed to get out of the grasp of three defenders, throw a dumb pass up for grabs downfield, and then david tyree - who is a scrub - makes a ridiculous contested catch. yet mark prior can't get five more outs in game six. ](*,)
  9. well, only five people got it right, and most of them were probably cowboys fans thinking they'd win three playoff games (probably need to win one first...) anyway thanks for playing.
  10. i hate life. why couldn't the cubs have the horseshoe that the giants had on their td drive? and why did it have to be the freakin giants?
  11. i think michigan state should go from potential 2-seed to "on the bubble" after this one
  12. michigan state is tied late in the game with... penn state? wtf?!?!?
  13. what's the point of background checks anyway? bruce froemming is on record having called a woman a "stupid Jew b****" and was suspended for 10 days without pay and had to apologize publicly, and then went right back to umpiring and called some playoff games too. mlb had this scathing review of him: oh wait... ](*,)
  14. i'll switch over and see, but i'm guessing it's jack edwards and andy brickley. edwards is an excellent announcer; he was with espn for a long time and did a lot of their hockey games in the late 90s and early 00s. he's had a lot of practice doing unbiased announcing (since that's what national announcers are supposed to be, joe buck) and that probably reflects in the work he does with the b's. andy brickley probably has more homer tendencies in than edwards, but brickley is a good announcer in his own right. but assuming it is those two (it usually is), you're right about them being very good. they're probably the best duo of announcers in the league.
  15. we have to have the dumbest enforcer in the league. riley cote makes a habit of going out on the ice while the flyers have the lead and the momentum, and then getting the piss beat out of him by someone who's actually a good fighter. at least if you're gonna get beat up, do it while the other team has the momentum... that way you don't totally bone us over for the next few minutes.
  16. BP tends to be more stat-oriented. BA is more tools-oriented. Personally I have never been a big fan of BA's rankings; they seem to give way too much credence to a guy's tools when it's becoming obvious that he can't play (see: ryan harvey). on the other hand, BP will tend to overrate guys who are playing at a level that is pretty low for them, or guys who have significant holes that will be exploited at the big league level. Maybe the Jason Dubois types is what I'm thinking of. But I think BA really underrates guys in the vein of Khalil Greene and Dustin Pedroia - guys who are relatively good bets to become at least average major league players. Just because they don't have superstar upside does not mean that they won't be productive players in the big leagues, and if you can get a guy who is a little above average (granted - the two guys above are pretty significantly above average for their positions) and end up paying him beans for a few years, then you've got yourself a valuable commodity.
  17. put me down. hopefully i will start a thread for a game where rich hill throws a no-no and geovany soto hits 5 homers.
  18. well our inept coach keeps dressing jimmy vandermeer, so that he can go out and be on the ice for as many goals against as possible. he got outmuscled for one of the goals by peter prucha, who isn't exactly a bull on the ice. vandermeer is a -1 now with the flyers, during which time the team has been well over .500. Kukkonen is a +5 and was with hatcher as the team's best shot blockers. stevens' affection for canadian players, and guys who were with him on the phantoms, is pretty ridiculous.
  19. well if he were still hitting like that, he wouldn't be a bench player. his numbers haven't really been close to his previous production the last two years.
  20. pessimism, my friend. it goes along with being a cub fan.
  21. no, bonds did not "allegedly" take steroids. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2004/12/03/MNGGFA0UDU65.DTL
  22. i'm somewhat confused about how kosuke only has a 4.4 WARP with a .905 OPS and .401 OBP. seems like it'd be significantly higher than 4.4. i really hope he's that good, or close to it. soto posting that line would make me very happy.
  23. here's the bp top 100 soto is #37 and vitters is #45 (he'll be #2045 next offseason) btw the guy the cubs should've drafted is #12
  24. 1. Mets 2. Dodgers 3. Braves 4. Diamondbacks 5. Phillies 6. Brewers 7. Rockies 8. Cubs 9. Padres 10. Marlins 11. Astros 12. Reds (enough talent to be better, but Dusty is the manager) 13. Cards 14. Nationals 15. Pirates 16. Giants
