  1. not NHL, but the flyers' and devils' minor league affiliates have played a ridiculous series in the AHL Calder Cup playoffs. Game five was decided on in the 5th overtime; the albany goalie (former blackhawk michael leighton) made 99 saves in the game (!!!) There was a nice line brawl early in the series; today's game six was won 1-0 in OT by albany, forcing a game seven. Btw, the d-man that set up the goal is extremely gifted offensively and is apparently awful defensively; here's his . If he can ever become decent defensively, he'll be fun to watch. In other playoff news of interest to me, future top-six forward claude giroux is putting up pee-wee numbers for gatineau in the QMJHL playoffs: 14 games, 12 goals, 25 assists, 37 points, +26. next-highest player has 26 points. giroux is going to be awesome for us in the next few years, the future is bright (if we get a real coach).
  2. haha, is that telling of the matt millen era? a good offensive lineman on the board, and the lions move down and let another team take him. must not be a WR he liked in that spot.
  3. please move up and take otah ahead of the eagles.
  4. isn't youk of romanian descent or something? i know he's not greek.
  5. i'm mostly tired of how he pronounces his last name.
  6. Sucks to say, but that's probably the best catch I've seen too. agreed. i was at a bar and one of the stupid "best damn ___" things was on, and it was best damn baseball plays. immediately i thought "the edmonds play had better be one of the top three of all time or this is a sham," and it was either #1 or #2.
  7. no offense, but this sentiment is idiotic. How so? I mean I'd like him to keep it up for as long as he can but I really don't think he will. Believing, as I do, that Cedeno is a much more viable option at SS, I'd rather he have the remaining spot in the starting lineup when Alf's return sends DeRo back to 2B in 5 days. Seeing as Lou likes to play the hot hand, it would ultimately be in the teams best interest if Cedeno got that spot. If he and Riot both stay hot for now or just play around the same level, odds are Riot is getting that spot which would also probably lead to him getting more time even when he inevitably cools down. okay. i think lieber is, overall, a better option for the starting rotation than dempster. i also think that marshall is a better pitcher than jason marquis, so obviously i'd prefer that marshall get more innings than marquis. shall i start rooting for two of our five starters to get drilled over the next month so that we can get the rotation that i feel is best?
  8. DeRosa is at .284/.389/.473 right now and is a better player year-to-year than cedeno and theriot, how does that make him the odd man out?
  9. your definition of "certainly" is "certainly" very different than mine.
  10. Haha, No I don't think he will hit .350 all year. But I take Jason Kendall over Estrada, Estrada makes Kendall look like Ricky Henderson. estrada had a 7.7 VORP last year, kendall had a -9.8. they're both bad defensively. estrada is still the better player - unless kendall is able to sustain the .344 BABIP with a 16% line drive rate, and good luck with that.

  12. is that sarcastic? Is your Ronny Cedeno signature sarcastic? is he green?
  13. any team will trade any player to any other team for the right price Yep. I'd want Marmol, Hill, Gallagher and another prospect if I were the Stro's. Marmols out of the question. I dont care whose on the table. Ridiculous. He's a reliever. Relievers should always be considered as part of a trade that upgrades the starting rotation or the lineup. If this Oswat talk wasn't bunk and the Astros wanted Marmol as part of the deal, you damn well add in Marmol. marmol was 4th in VORP among cub pitchers last season and is second this season. He had a 34.5 VORP last season; rich hill had a 40.5 VORP and Carlos Zambrano had a 43.5 VORP. You can't just throw every relief pitcher in the bin together with the rationale that they're not worth that much. the difference between Marmol and Dempster in VORP last year, throwing roughly the same number of innings, was 26 points; the difference between Wuertz and Marmol was 17 points. The difference between, say, Khalil Greene and Ryan Theriot was 16 points of VORP. I guess my point is, if you trade away an outstanding reliever to upgrade at another position, you might not really be upgrading your team like you think you are.
  14. it's a better predictor of future performance than the overall W/L record. the yankees and cubs were very unlucky early on last year with respect to their pythagorean records, and their second-half performances confirmed that they were good teams that were just running short on luck in the first half.
  15. lol, is that what happened? You're taking a hell of a beating in this thread, that's for sure. The ref might need to stop this fight before you get hurt. next time I'll put my comments in green so that people know there was sarcasm involved. my mistake.
  16. lol, is that what happened? thanks for the tip.
  17. Wouldn't the right thing be to fire Dusty now? no, yesterday
  18. yeah, he's done a great job of taking ABs away from votto, who's clearly the better player. Hatteberg made his first start since April 10th today. Yeah, really taking ABs away. votto has 60 PAs in 20 games. either the reds have been getting perfect-gamed every time out, or someone's taking playing time away from him.
  19. easy down there guys, you don't want colin wyers to experience chafing.
  20. when you play in montreal, you have to be the habs, their fans and the refs. always been like that, always will. still, good teams don't continually blow 2 goal leads. if we lose game 2 you can pretty much just stick a fork in us, we'll probably be swept or win a game at most.
  21. woooooooooooo another blown lead!!!
  22. oh God montreal is on the PP with our best PK forward in the box and 1:09 left to kill. i have an ulcer.
