  1. well the phillies finally scored. and ryan ludwick has a .968 OPS... that makes me want to punch something.
  2. thanks for the info TT... sounds like people are pretty high on him, so i'm surprised he lasted until the 9th round.
  3. (a) who is jay jackson? (b) why does he go by jay when his listed name is "randy jackson" © why is he so good at striking people out? either this guy just has really advanced stuff for his age and will get exploited at higher levels, or the cubs got a steal.
  4. i totally called this earlier today \:D/ oh wait, this is good for the cardinals #-o
  5. that seems like a pretty weak reason to fire someone. sure you weren't watching porno?
  6. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=224434&src=152 Hmmm, Stern is very much a traditionalist and would fit well in perceived "good ole boys" clubs. Seems like his recommendation would have quite a bit of impact for anyone riding the fence on Cuban. Stern knows Cuban has been good for the NBA, referee criticisms aside. Cuban took over the Mavericks and not only made them a contender, but also made them one of the most popular franchises in the NBA. Cuban may have been a disciplinary headache, but he's been one of the best things to happen to the NBA in the past few years. yeah, stern is, ahead of everything else, a businessman - not by trade, but in the way that he sells the NBA. the league wasn't in great shape when he started serving as general counsel; now it's a multibillion dollar enterprise that is popular all over the world. regardless of cuban's tantrums and complaints, stern knows that he bought a moribund franchise that was one of the laughingstocks of the league, and turned it into a perennial title contender. the mavs have more than doubled in value since cuban bought them. stern knows a good businessman when he sees one; that's why he supports cuban.
  7. dumbest organization in pro sports? (a) they're a small market team that consistently contends for division titles - hardly what you'd call the dumbest organization in their division, let alone all of professional sports. (b) i'm pretty sure they kept him in the minors to keep his service time low - that way he won't be arbitration-eligible until after next season.
  8. there have also been numerous reports that he hasn't worked hard in rehabbing his injuries and has shown up to camp out of shape at least once that i remember... maybe he shows up out of shape every year, i dunno. anyway, lack of command + lack of effort = not going anywhere fast. I have never heard the lack of effort bit before. well you should have invested in the 2007 BA prospect handbook!
  9. boy, it looks like we should've traded for more offense. way to drop the ball, hendry.
  10. joe mather is gonna go on a tear
  11. You may be giving Ned too much credit. How do you know the pitcher didn't do that on his own? pitchers generally don't just throw at players on their own. they'll sometimes do it if the opposing pitchers have been throwing at his teammates, but to throw at a player who's hit your other pitchers well? that usually comes from the manager.
  12. All three of the pitches to Soto were over the plate and would have been strikes. Same as his last AB. You can hit strikes the other way though, correct? no, they added a rule about that last night.
  13. Yet he's one out from a quality start. I can't say that I'm happy with mediocre pitching. I'm just not mad about it either. That's kind of what mediocre is. In a pennant race, mediocrity steams me up a little. I guess we're just different like that. He's a 5th starter... Jeff Karstens is out pitching him. that's a silly point to make. the guy hasn't given up a run, so he'd be outpitching just about anybody at this point.
  14. i'd rather the cubs do nothing today than against the brewers.
  15. if i'm a pirates fan, the one thing i would've liked to see is a potential front line starter. that organization is really poor when it comes to pitching. i wonder if they tried to pry michael bowden away from the red sox... he would've been the guy that i targeted.
  16. guess who's a 96.1% shot to make the playoffs...
  17. gotta give him credit, he can't manage his way out of a paper bag, but when an aging outfielder takes his pitchers deep twice, ned knows how to tell his pitcher to throw at him.
  18. good thing bruce didn't wear that outfit, that would've been awwwwwkward.
  19. possibly my all-time favorite NSBB rant.
  20. there have also been numerous reports that he hasn't worked hard in rehabbing his injuries and has shown up to camp out of shape at least once that i remember... maybe he shows up out of shape every year, i dunno. anyway, lack of command + lack of effort = not going anywhere fast.
  21. i want that last series of the year, and the road trip to shea, to be completely meaningless games.
  22. and let's be honest, male reporters do this too. bernie miklasz has a bigger rack than erin andrews and he goes braless like all the time.
  23. well we know who mike nadel is imagining his wife as the next time he gets laid.
