  2. randy hundley caught 160 games one year? jeez, no wonder he always fell apart in the last month or two.
  3. well the chicago cubs don't win championships, but the wheelchair cubs have two.
  4. Theriot is actually a big DP candidate because of hit tendency to hit ground balls. He hits into a DP a greater percentage of his available opportunities than any other Cub. yes but he also has a .391 OBP, so he also does a lot of good things when he's batting.
  5. good thing theriot was bunting, this guy is lights out right now.
  6. i hope the fans who were booing were doing so for the manager, not the player.
  7. Hopefully it's an issue of getting the rust off combined with their bus breaking down and them getting to the game late. But 2 straight horrid control games is not good. Sigh. well he'd better get his act together soon... he's on his way to being the fastest #1 draft pick bust since len bias. You have to be effing kidding me. sorry, i'll use green font next time.
  8. Ugh at the bolded. Unbelievable how irresponsible Dusty was. It makes me sick he nearly ruined Kerry's career. i think the second one might even be worse, but they're both really bad. people weren't happy about lou letting zambrano go more than 120 pitches on back to back starts, but at least the next start after that he shortened him to something like 83 pitches in 5 innings. kerry wood had 3 strings of 120+ pitches and then followed them up with "light" outings of 114 and 117 pitches.
  9. Fixed. well that certainly explains why the cubs are on espn all the time. must be that east coast bias.
  10. they probably should, because kenny lofton was pretty awesome early in his career. they should also be pretty pissed about leaving johan santana unprotected for the rule v draft. though the marlins can also feel really dumb too (the twins drafted jared camp, then traded him to the marlins for santana, who was drafted second. the marlins also threw in the $500,000 to pay for drafting santana. whoops.)

  12. prediction: andy reid will wear his slimming black to every game, and he'll still look 200 lbs overweight.
  13. i still like 2004, even though there were health issues. on another note, kerry wood made 65 starts between 2002 and 2003, plus 4 playoff starts. everybody forgets this because he broke down so frequently after 2003. but in 2003 he was #2 in all of baseball in PAPs. he had a pair of really unconscionable pitch count strings: April 6 to May 15 (starting with his second start of the season - generally not a great idea to abuse the hell out of your pitchers when they're still building arm strength): 111, 122, 104, 115, 116, 141, 121 August 27 to September 30: 125, 120, 122, 114, 125, 122, 124, 117 i'm not convinced that kerry was not on his way to becoming a more durable pitcher, and dusty broke him in 2003. a lot of people think dusty broke prior, but people kind of assume that wood was going to break just because he did in 1999, but i'm not sure about that.
  14. Hah, that was my first year watching the team. I actually liked that rotation for some reason. I was a fan of Kevin Foster and Castillo. Navarro was solid with us, too. I don't remember much about Bullinger other than he had huge ears. Trachsel was dominant in 1996, if nothing else. He was very good in 1994, 1996, and 1998. He was horrible in 1995, 1997, and 1999. sounds like he was on the bret saberhagen plan.
  15. thank you for explaining the point that i was too lazy to make myself.
  16. he's #10 in american league pitchers in VORP... that screams "cy young" to me.
  17. BP's odds are much more promising for tampa than your odds, and their odds for the yankees are much less optimistic.
  18. 1. musial 2. hornsby 3. ozzie smith pujols will replace ozzie on the list in a couple of years.
  19. the veterans' committee and the hall of fame expressed some disappointment and embarrassment after three straight votes with nobody being selected. maybe that'll convince some guys who were on the fence to vote for ronnie.
