  1. from every account i've read, brooks robinson is the best defensive 3B of all time. santo was very good but not great. still, it's pointless in arguing between the two of them because they both clearly belong in the hall of fame.
  2. atkins solid so far... 4 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB and 6 K. edit - K's the side in the 5th so now he's at 9 K in 5 IP.
  3. let's just score 15 runs this inning, then we can take Z out after 5.
  4. btw it is nice to see soto taking the ball the other way... pitchers have begun throwing him a lot of low/outside breaking balls and he's doing a lot better job of staying back on the ball.
  5. snell is really not fooling anyone.
  6. of course if he is gonna single then a GIDP there is bad.
  7. i guess a GIDP is better than strikeout if soriano strikes out again.
  8. control/command. 62 BB in 110 innings this year, compared to 68 in 210 innings last year. he was also lucky on BABIP last year, though he should certainly be better than he has been this year.
  9. yeah when your #8 hitter has 17 homers and an .841 OPS, you have a well-rounded lineup. sure beats the days of auto-outs like neifi and (insert 2007 cubs catcher here)
  10. are we gonna lose a series to the effin pirates?
  11. boy, i wish the 2004 team was as good as everyone thinks it was. yeah, they had a great starting staff and everyone looked at that as the reason they were going to win it all, but in reality, the offense was completely average (11th in the NL in OBP, 7th in runs scored) and the bullpen wasn't good either (9th in ERA and WHIP). this year's team is first in runs scored and OBP, 1st in starter ERA and 2nd in starter WHIP, 7th in bullpen ERA and 4th in bullpen WHIP. this team is easily better on offense and has a better bullpen. it's better than 2004, by a good margin.
  12. Yeah but think of how many we would be ahead if we had only not come out cold after the AS break. or if the braves werent completely worthless right now. we better have a decent lead by mid september, cuz the last 2 weeks has collapse written all over it. jeez this is worse than "glass half empty"... this is like "glass filled with the two girls, one cup stuff"
  13. wooot, ankiel waves at two low sliders and misses. what a nice ending, cards lose by a run at home and my most hated player whiffs to end it. do it again tomorrow.
  14. oh God ankiel is pinch hitting... i'm going to throw something if he hits a walkoff
  15. stan musial strikes out on a slider in the dirt.
  16. brad lidge in for the phillies to protect a one run lead. the first hitter he faces? albert pujols. i believe they've met before. then after pujols is the best corner OF in the game, ryan ludwick.
  17. good thing you're not ignoring the next 6 years of his career, because that would look awfully ridiculous. Yeah, the .927, .830 (injury shortened), .602 (injury shortened), .848, 1.022 years were weak. note that his highest two OPS seasons have come at age 29 in AAA and age 30 at the major league level - both of which happened after he joined the cardinal organization. he profiled as a hitter like jose guillen, not manny ramirez.
  18. he was a good prospect, not a guy who profiled as one of the top ten hitters in baseball. and pitchers were really exploiting holes in his swing when he was up with oakland and texas.
  19. joe mather just grounded into a double play with pujols on deck... haha after watching that AB, i don't think mather should see another fastball as long as he's playing professional baseball.
  20. sam fuld is 1-1 with 2 walks... nobody else from tennessee has reached base.
  21. jason bay has been more productive than manny ramirez this year; he was also better in 2005 and 2006. the loss of manny really doesn't hurt the red sox.
  22. good thing you're not ignoring the next 6 years of his career, because that would look awfully ridiculous.
  23. ugh, this phillies announcer is talking about how eric brunlett already has reached career highs in runs, stolen bases and total bases. that's because nobody ever let him play because he can't hit for beans, pal. his OPS is still a robust .611.
  24. you might recognize the name... this could put them over the top.
