  1. run differential aside, it's certainly a defensible position to think that the angels are the best team. they have a deep rotation, great bullpen and just picked up teixeira. ryan g-damn ludwick hit yet another home run. 2-1 phils.

  3. that seems like a pretty weak reason to fire someone. sure you weren't watching porno? Employment in Illinois is at will; An employee can be terminated for any reason or no reason at all (unless you are in a union). yeah but just because you CAN fire someone doesn't mean you necessarily want to. if you've gone through the hassle of hiring and training someone, usually you're going to be inclined to keep them around unless you've got a good reason to get rid of them.
  4. rare whiff from pujols... go phils
  5. I don't think it's too hard to make sense of losing 4 to the best team in the NL, then turning around and beating one of the worst teams in the NL a couple times in a row ('cuz after all the trades n' injuries, the Braves are now surely one of the NL's worst). I'm looking at the Crew's upcoming schedule. It's incredibly easy so the Brewers should be an auto-win machine all month long. I think he is trying to pretend that we aren't very good. Whether we're very good or not, we're still better than the Brewers...probably by a significant margin. if the cubs aren't very good then pretty much nobody in MLB is very good. i guess that's an argument joe morgan would make though (i.e., everyone is mediocre, there are no great teams any more)
  6. is that the same james whose projection system had rich hill as a great pitcher??? lololol what a moron.
  7. Williams in the two hole and Mays leading off? I'd have to think that Wagner would have gone better in either of those spots with his speed. yeah i didn't really put much thought into lineup order, i just said "all these guys are awesome" and "this lineup will score a lot of runs no matter what." actually i had ty cobb hitting leadoff, but then decided to make him a reserve and mays a starter. i still like williams in the 2-hole because of his absurd .482 OBP. i guess a better order would be: SS - Honus Wagner LF - Ted Williams RF - Babe Ruth 1B - Lou Gehrig CF - Willie Mays C - Josh Gibson 3B - Mike Schmidt 2B - Joe Morgan i'm gonna go back and edit my post, putting in everyone's career EqA.
  8. man who are the braves throwing out there in this series? yesterday's starter had a 9 ERA, this clown's ERA is over 7.
  9. ooh this looks fun. unlike MLB pre-1947, i'm gonna let the blacks play too. Starting five: Walter Johnson - R (773 PRAA, 3.37 DERA) Pedro Martinez - R (400 PRAA, 3.12 DERA) Lefty Grove - L (494 PRAA, 3.38 DERA) Pete Alexander - R (564 PRAA, 3.53 DERA) Cy Young - R (860 PRAA, 3.45 DERA) Bullpen Sandy Koufax - L (233 PRAA, 3.56 DERA) Tom Seaver - R (409 PRAA, 3.69 DERA) Roger Clemens - R (682 PRAA, 3.18 DERA) Satchel Paige - R (N/A) Steve Carlton - L (266 PRAA, 4.02 DERA) Mariano Rivera - R (399 PRAA, 2.29! DERA) Starting lineup: SS - Honus Wagner (career .311 EqA - weighed down by several "poor" years late in his career) LF - Ted Williams (.359) RF - Babe Ruth (.363) 1B - Lou Gehrig (.341) CF - Willie Mays (.330) C - Josh Gibson (N/A) 3B - Mike Schmidt (.314) 2B - Joe Morgan (.314) Reserves: C - Yogi Berra (.286) IF - Alex Rodriguez (.322) IF - Rogers Hornsby (.337) OF - Oscar Charleston (N/A) OF - Ty Cobb (.330) OF - Barry Bonds (.352) Toughest call was CF - Mays, Charleston, Cobb and Mantle (.342) are all worthy candidates of starting, and one of them had to be left off the team. It was also tough to leave off Musial (.332), Warren Spahn (281 PRAA, 4.02 DERA), Bob Gibson (312 PRAA, 3.75 DERA) and Greg Maddux (457 PRAA, 3.65 DERA). I also have a feeling that Jackie Robinson (.308) would've been really awesome if he'd been allowed to play in MLB through his 20s - look at his numbers, and those were put up after his peak.
  10. .739 OPS vs lhp. if the cubs can get better production against lefties with him on the bench, it would be stupid to keep him in the lineup just because of how much he gets paid, come on dude. Yeah and who are they replace him with in the lineup? Ronny Cedeno and his .689 OPS vs. LHP That's a good point. I always forget the Ronny has reverse splits. so does lou. although i'm cool with ronny/fontenot getting spot starts to keep theriot and derosa fresh for october.
  11. .347 BABIP in 08 that's not as high as i would've expected, actually. he's a really good fastball hitter; i guess his defense sucks, but when your catcher is OPS'ing over .900 you don't really worry about that.
  12. ryan doumit's BABIP has to be like .400 this year... i don't know what the hell has gotten into him.
  13. He wears a Cubs hat during performances Heck he wears it IN guitar hero the video game, of course he is he even has a cubs hat on in his wikipedia page, that's all the proof you need.
  14. .739 OPS vs lhp. if the cubs can get better production against lefties with him on the bench, it would be stupid to keep him in the lineup just because of how much he gets paid, come on dude. i liked the rapist quote better
  15. don't lose to the friggin pirates again, dammit.
  16. i've also been told that the county that's home to lubbock is a dry county... which would make it even more of a hellhole.
  17. yeah i am fine with throwing at someone if the opposing pitchers are targeting your stars, but what are you doing throwing at jim edmonds? because he actually did his job well against you today? it's not like he stood at home plate and celebrated for 5 seconds; he put his head down and jogged around the bases. i think he pumped his fist rounding first, but so what - it was a grand slam and gave the cubs a big lead against their closest competitor. the brewers really need to rid themselves of ned yost, for numerous reasons, but their record is too good right now for him to get the boot.
  18. soto has the edge but he has to pick it up... he has really been lousy lately.
  19. :x hey, at least i was right about ryan theriot. (blind squirrel finding nut?)
  20. no way, badnews looking at something in a negative light? first time for everything.
  21. would they really pull a guy for missing a catch? he's probably hurt again.
  22. ryan ludwick: 4-4 with 2 HRs. in all of baseball, he's #8 in OPS. that really effin pisses me off.
  23. i'm up to 121st... my change of pitchers has been disastrous, costing me 69 points. i'd be in 8th place if i hadn't made the switch :x
