  1. hey, i'll actually get to watch the cubs on a saturday fox game. usually i get screwed over by the yankees or phillies or red sox.
  2. this thread demands a stickie. it cracks me up how after like half of the big home runs santo seems incredulous and says "oh my God, can you believe it patrick?" you'd think that this was his first year following professional baseball, rather than like his 45th.
  3. ryan theriot has the highest OBP of any cub. mark derosa has a higher slugging percentage than ryan howard.
  4. yeah i figured that part. however, this raises a few questions. one, who is paying the police officers that intervened? if they are NYPD, are they being paid by the city, or are the yankees paying the city to pay the officers? if they're being paid by the city, i would think that has some bearing - public-funded officers accosting private citizens at a private venue. also, assuming that there is nothing on the ticket or on the PA about having to stand still while God Bless America is being sung, it's unreasonable to think that people should know about this custom, let alone be obligated to follow it.
  5. the point i was trying to make is that ARam's numbers in "clutch" situations are significantly better than his numbers in "non-clutch" situations. and this doesn't consist of evidence compiled over half a season - it's more than 5000 PAs.
  6. daytona is up 4-0 in the 7th. wright is 2-4 with 2 rbi; russell gave up only 1 hit in 6 IP (2 BB, 3 K)
  7. yeah i don't listen to them often because i don't live near chicago and usually when i'm following a game, it's via mlb.tv. but pat always seems to do a good job of passing along pertinent information - like how hard it is to homer off of durbin. he does a great job of passing along the feel of the game to the listener. and another thing i noticed is how well he does to keep the broadcast fun and light-hearted. for example, cory provus was supposed to come on and give an update of the brewers-cards game, but his mike wasn't working or he wasn't ready or something. rather than say "sorry about that, we're having some technical difficulties" like most announcers would, he said something along the lines of "cory is never one to toot his own horn, and he's very bashful. hopefully we can get him to open up soon." i guess i just like a guy who jokes around like that.
  8. for my week 1 upsets, i've got fresno state over rutgers and moo over cal.
  9. wear it with pride, bleacher badger, but be aware - there's always a roger federer out there who's trying to become a bigger and better [expletive].
  10. sure strikes me as bullcrap i'm not sure if the yankees have the right to make rules like this at their venue, and even if they are - can the ushers and "police officers" inside the stadium physically abuse the paying customers who violate the rule?
  11. you should have turned around and thrown up on him, to commemorate pete's u.s. open vomiting.
  12. Best reliever in baseball, bar none. mariano rivera might have something to say about that.
  13. DAMMIT the spikes have caught fire, winning 3 of their last 6 games, so now they're up to a .231 winning percentage. the visiting team's bullpen was pretty funny the last game i went to. they were playing various games with paper cups. they set up 10 of them and would bowl the ball toward the cups from the other side of the bullpen. then they set up a croquet course and started playing, hitting the baseball with the bat and trying to get it in between a few sets of cups.
  14. don't look now, but the tribe has a 2 in 1000 shot at making the playoffs!!!
  15. i knew there was no way lebron could be so good without some help.
  16. congrats to samardzija on his first big league win
  17. what do you know, strike out, groundout, no runs let derosa swing the bat can't believe that move didn't pay off. ronny cedeno is pretty much a guarantee to get at least one run in, what with his solid approach and great contact skills.
  18. Fontenot can't play short. DeRosa isn't a good bet there either. my bad, forgot that theriot was out of the game. guess you have to stick with ronny.
  19. what's wrong with soto and fontenot? you have a chance to get a big insurance run and you use the worst-hitting position player on the team?
  20. uh wut? they have the #2 bullpen ERA in baseball. even without lidge, their bullpen has been good this year. the only guy who has been bad is tom gordon.
  21. i'd thank him if he hadn't blown the call on the play before. csn philly had a good view of utley's foot still in the air as lee scooped the ball. fortunately the bad calls evened out.
