  1. btw, what will the point spread be in usc at washington st? washington st has lost their i-a games by an average of 40 points, and they lost to oregon st by 53 points today. that spread seriously might be over 50 points.
  2. BYU and Utah haven't lost a game. Those others have. That's what polls go by, not who's better than who. which is why the BCS was invented, because the polls are horrible and wrong No one's saying they're not. But as of October 11th, 2008, BYU and Utah deserve to be ranked higher than those teams. they dont deserve to be ranked higher because theyre not better football teams. rankings are supposed to rank teams by if the two teams played the next day on the field, who would be better. yes but your opinion of who is going to win tomorrow is not necessarily what actually will happen if two teams play. see: your frequent wrongness in big ten-sec bowl games; boise st-oklahoma fiesta bowl.
  3. BYU and Utah haven't lost a game. Those others have. That's what polls go by, not who's better than who. byu and utah will play each other, and each has a game with tcu, who is very good. utah was one of the top 5 teams in the country when alex smith was there; boise st was a top 5 team the year they won the fiesta bowl. yet everyone continues to crap on good teams not in bcs conferences simply because they aren't as athletic.
  4. yeah i would argue vehemently that the big xii is the toughest conference this year. look at the gauntlet texas has to run - neutral field with oklahoma, home against mizzou, home against okie st, at texas tech, at kansas. texas tech has a four-game string of @kansas, vs texas, vs oklahoma st, @oklahoma. okie st has road games with texas, mizzou and texas tech as well as a home game versus oklahoma. if any team comes out of the big xii undefeated i'll be very impressed and, frankly, surprised.
  5. thanks, i was curious about that. it's probably a good thing that daniel won't wear it again though, he was pretty lousy tonight, as was the entire offense.
  6. the truffleshuffle top 25: 1. texas 2. alabama 3. penn st 4. oklahoma 5. texas tech 6. byu 7. oklahoma st 8. usc 9. utah 10. florida 11. mizzou 12. lsu 13. georgia 14. ohio st 15. boise st 16. kansas 17. michigan state 18. south florida 19. virginia tech 20. wake forest 21. tcu 22. ball st 23. cal 24. north carolina 25. georgia tech
  7. can't be; florida isn't #2 or #1a
  8. 1 and 2 are easy, in whatever order you want to put them. psu will be number 3. i'd put ou at 4 because they lost to a #1 team. florida lost to an average ole miss team at home; i'd put texas tech at #5, lousy performance today notwithstanding.
  9. yeah you could see that the ball probably hit the ground but not for certain, so the call on the field had to stand. oklahoma st is gonna be top 10, we need them to lose a big game so mike gundy melts down in a press conference.
  10. wow, so bama is #1 and penn st is #3. i don't think anyone could have seen that coming back in august. also, oklahoma state's plastic cowboy is stupid.
  11. that first view that they said you couldn't see anything, i think i saw the ball hit the ground. the other views were useless.
  12. ah right, the kind of speed that always results in teams like florida blowing out teams like michigan in bowl games. but yeah, psu needs to go undefeated to make the title game, and they need all but one of texas, oklahoma st, texas tech, mizzou and alabama to lose at least once. at most one team in the big xii can go undefeated, so can alabama do it? their schedule isn't too bad the rest of the way, but they do have a road game at lsu as well as another likely game against georgia or florida in the sec title game, so i don't think they will be undefeated.
  13. well you can compare what penn state did against the teams they've played versus what other teams did. they blew out oregon state, who beat usc. they're slaughtering wisconsin at camp randall, and wisconsin gave ohio state all they can handle last week. you can say wisconsin isn't very good, but a team that goes to wisconsin and blows their doors off probably is very good. plus, you have to hold other teams to the same standard. lsu has played nobody before tonight - auburn might have been a top 10 team at the time, but they've been exposed as a fraud - and now lsu is getting thumped. mizzou hasn't played anybody before tonight, and they're struggling with oklahoma st. texas beat ou today and deserves to be #1, but they hadn't played anybody either. texas tech is texas tech, so obviously they haven't played anyone. alabama has one very good win and hasn't played anybody aside from that. point is, the other highly-ranked teams have played at most one very good team.
  14. i guess penn state's schedule has been soft, but this is a really impressive performance. there are a couple of potential slip-ups (vs michigan, who we never beat, @iowa, home vs michigan st), but really the game against ohio st is the only very large hurdle to clear for an undefeated season.
  15. oregon state leads wazzu 66-13. wazzu has lost their games against i-a opponents by a combined score of 307 to 63. they're not an awful team for a bcs conference, they're an awful team period. i can only think of a couple of teams (north texas, idaho) that might be worse than them.
  16. it'd be a better time to be a student :) that's what holy cross did to me - lost 75% of their football games and 70% of their basketball games when i was there, then had a winning record in football and made the ncaa tourney in basketball the year after i graduated.
  17. It was more a case of the writers hated Ted Williams. Indeed. Fans today don't really understand that Williams was basically the Barry Bonds of his day. Nearly universally hated. Wow, I never knew that. Why was he so hated? Was he rude to the media or was he kind of a dirty player? he was just a dick to the media, didn't think that he should have to bother with them. he also got pissed off when the media discussed his personal life in the papers. he didn't like that the fans would boo him and other players when they screwed up, especially if they did a lot of other good things otherwise, so he never made curtain calls or tipped his cap. but that's really where the similarities to bonds end. williams gave generously to charity and was always very kind and supportive toward his teammates, and spent four years fighting in wwii and korea. the service in korea was completely voluntary - he stayed in the reserves after his service in wwii. and he used his hall of fame induction speech to support inducting negro league players into the hall of fame. barry bonds, by most accounts, is a jerk on and off the field.
  18. todd blackledge: "you want to be careful deep in your own end here, you don't want to give up cheap points to penn state right before the end of the half" first play: evridge scrambles, doesn't protect the ball, fumbles, penn state gets it, scores a td two plays later.
  19. boy except for williams dropping that deep pass, this game has been just about perfect.
  20. we need some points... wisconsin has been doing nothing and psu keeps getting good field position, but there was a big drop on a deep pass. i'm also not too thrilled with the conservative calls on 4th and short (field goal and punt)
  21. my roommate dragged his tv into the living room to give us 3 tv's to watch tonight... since there are 3 must-see games (lsu-florida, mizzou-oklahoma st, psu-wisconsin) btw wisconsin, you might want to stop putting the band in your promotional commercials.
  22. that td pass was lucky as hell
  23. wisconsin is playing rock, paper, scissors and throwing rock every time.
  24. Same stuff they always do, namely alcohol-fueled inappropriate sexual misconduct. This occurrence wasn't nearly the entire band, but they have a long tradition of it. They're lucky it hasn't happened more often. yeah we don't need to hear any more about band people getting drunk and having sex.
  25. solid start for derrick williams, dropped a punt and then dropped an easy td on a perfect pass
