  1. it's like illinois, except with ucla
  2. well, that's a lot less dumb than what you said before
  3. I was talking about this with my roommate today. It's probably my Big 10 homerism at play, but I have actually come to admire and even enjoy the Big 10 style of play over time. It's probably because its all I see, plus every single non-Big 10 person rips it nonstop, but I enjoy it. says the fat guy trying to have sex
  4. hey, they try hard
  5. in a perfect world we drafted wieters, ate half of lee's contract, didn't trade derosa and are heading into this season with either soto or wieters at 1B, the other playing catcher, derosa still playing 2B and being a super sub at 3B/OF, kerry wood still closing games and aaron miles is wandering the sahara.
  6. i got the ohio st game wrong, and i've never been so happy to get a game wrong. f*** ohio state and yay for northeast Catholic schools. It's hard to dislike Evan Turner, though. he wears an ohio st uniform, so it's really not.

  8. i picked cleveland st. unfortunately i also picked teams that choked like illinois and utah st to go to the sweet 16. so my bracket is trash but i enjoyed the late-night games immensely.
  9. maybe it's because i picked utah st to go 2 rounds, but i'd like to think they're a pretty good team. their 30-4 record coming into the tourney would at least argue that.
  10. yeah eventually teams will realize that "wildcat" means "line up a non-quarterback in the shotgun behind center and then run the ball." i guess every 1 out of 200 plays where the coach is ballsy enough to throw it you'll get burned if you run blitz your entire D, but i'd say most of the time it's a pretty safe call.
  11. well i agree, but not because of ability. in terms of ability and cost-effectiveness, we should be really close to lee not being a starter for the cubs. actually we probably should be there already. in terms of real life, where nobody takes on albatross salaries and veterans get more credit than they're due, lee has at least another year of starting duty unless he completely loses it.
  12. i've gotten a lot of upsets wrong by 1-4 points. i suppose i'm a little spoiled by the years that i had kent st and southern illinois going far and they panned out, but i kinda expect a team like utah st to hold a six point lead in the last 5 minutes rather than royally choking it away. that was one i felt pretty good about until they crapped the bed. anyway at the point the tourney has been boring so i'm just rooting for schadenfreude.
  13. my bracket is basically toilet paper at this point. pitt looked horrendous. normally if a 16 hangs with a 1 it's because they played out of their mind, but it's not like ETSU played great - yeah they hustled a lot but they shot 30% from the field, 19% from downtown and 50% from the free throw line. their outside game was God-awful. if a 16 seed plays like that, you'd think they'd lose by 50. instead pitt pissed the ball away almost 20 times, and ETSU killed them on the offensive boards. if they play that way next round they will lose.
  14. On what planet and for what reason? Planet Earth and because Hoffpauir might be just as good as him. Actually, it would make a lot more sense to stick Hoff at 1B and dump Lee on a team dumb enough to take his contract, because you'd save $10M and not be saddled with a league-average first baseman, but unfortunately since Bill Bavasi and Jim Bowden are now unemployed, there may not be a MLB GM dumb enough to take on Lee's contract without demanding a bunch of money at the same time.
  15. from the limited video i saw from japan, it didn't look like he stepped in the bucket nearly as much when he was playing there. not that he didn't open up his front shoulder, but he opened up less and still stayed closed enough to drive the ball. maybe i am crazy, but i have a hard time seeing him be successful with the approach he was using the second half of last season.
  16. that's too bad, i feel bad for koskie. that's awful if he can't even play a whole game without suffering from post-concussion symptoms. he's almost 3 years removed from that concussion... chances are this affects him outside the game as well.
  17. yes. they play the winner of Florida/Miami for a chance at the Final Four in NYC hopefully miami wins so we can get a home game. i'm not sure that this is true, but someone at work was saying that psu probably would've been seeded #1 except that the #1 seed was slated to play on friday night, and the bryce jordan center was already contracted to host the piaa wrestling tournament. so because of that, psu couldn't be seeded #1 and got a #2, which might result in them having to play in gainesville. if true, that's annoying.
  18. i think that illinois had a great season considering that every call went against them and every loose ball bounced to their opposition. how many other teams could win 24 games under those conditions? not many, i say.
  19. you don't? there haven't been any real surprises, imo Not huge surprises but BYU and Cal had the edge in their games. Butler/LSU was a toss-up. oh, i liked Maryland a lot from what i saw in them upsetting UNC earlier in the year good thing you watched that game instead of their game at duke.
  20. you don't? there haven't been any real surprises, imo there were basically 4 coin flip games played already; to get those right is a 1 out of 32 shot. if you picked all chalk you'd have 3 games wrong. so it's not exactly surprising that someone has gotten a couple of games wrong.
  21. hail to the victors = ear rape
  22. yet another terrible play by clemson. either don't foul or mug the hell out of the guy.
  23. i can't believe clemson has a chance to win this game, they've been so bad tonight.
  24. psu beat you are high by 11. i guess we're in the elite 8 of the nit or something? i have no idea how the nit works.
