i'd rather have pollock than jackson. i don't want a guy who struck out 61 times in 53 games this season. trout would be a steal that late, but i don't see a way that he gets down to the cubs.

the track record of college 1B drafted in the first round is remarkably good compared to other positions and draft ages. i guess the question is, is poythress a guy whose bat is deserving of being a first round pick, or is picking him in the first round a reach? if he looks like a high-obp masher, i say go for it, but i've never seen him play so i don't know how well he projects as a pro with a wood bat.

j.j. redick could not be more useless if he actually tried to be completely useless.

he's atrocious defensively having played mostly LF, so he'd be playing RF. i don't think the cubs wanted to go into the season with a LF who takes some pretty bad routes to balls, a converted RF in CF, and a horrible defender playing RF. that's the obvious reason he wasn't signed.

granted he has a .377 BABIP, but darwin barney is having a nice year. his BB/K ratio is almost 1:1 and he's showing some gap power. i don't think anyone sees him as a good starting SS, but maybe he profiles as a guy similar to theriot, but with less speed and a better glove.
