  1. Speculation is that they'll trade Samuel which makes sense. yeah, i can't see them carrying all three guys, and they're not going to turn around and deal away cromartie-rodgers right away. i'd miss samuel's smarts in jumping routes, but if we can upgrade by acquiring a pass rusher then i'd be very happy.
  2. jeez, 18 runs in the last 4 innings for the azl cubs. the donger has his batting average over .300 now, although his plate discipline still sucks (2 bb, 22 k). kyung-min na has been hitting pretty well in his short spell in arizona... easy to forget he's just 19 after his four-team odyssey this year. i like marco hernandez quite a bit... amaya's batting average really seems fueled by good luck on balls in play, since he's struck out almost once per game.
  3. Do you ever get tired of being wrong? i think it's more that he likes being contrarian - taking positions that others will disagree with - because he's bored.
  4. and they fixed that dumb crease rule in hockey. so what you're saying is that there shouldn't be penalties in football, right?

  6. Defensive metrics? You really think he's the second-best leftfielder in the national league? LOL. You seriously are pathetic. Those metrics don't show he's the second-best leftfielder in the NL. But thanks for stopping by and embarrassing yourself again by thinking they do. i glanced at it quickly, not really bothering with the minutiae (whether he's 2nd or 4th best) and focusing on the main point (that he's not a terrible fielder who is lazy and brown). and stop telling other people that they're embarrassing themselves when your entire existence on this board is one colossal embarrassment.
  7. he'd probably run faster if he didn't have all that brown weighing him down.
  8. Hindsight is always 20/20. If, at the time, Hendry would have passed on the Fukudome sweepstakes to get Swisher, he would have gotten the usual "our GM is an idiot" treatment on NSBB. i highly doubt that. swisher had great patience and put up mid .800s OPS playing in cavernous coliseum (whatever they're calling it these days, naming rights have changed like 30 times). swisher was pretty much what one hoped fukudome would be coming over from japan.
  9. if you don't go a little longer than you want sometimes, you're not going to get good free agents to come play for you (unless you're lucky like the phillies and cliff lee has trash thrown on her by yankee fans, so he doesn't want to sign with them). who's the last top-flight free agent between 27 and 32 years old who only signed a 3 year deal? and as for the soriano contract, nobody would really give a [expletive] if he sucked for year 8 and wasn't that great in year 7. the problem is that he sucked in year 3, wasn't too good in year 4, sucks again in year 5, and probably won't be any good years 6 to 8. but that's what you get when you sign a free swinger to an 8 year deal when he's coming off a career year at age 30.
  10. he wasn't wrong, the players were wrong for not performing up to the level predicted by the mephotron 3000.
  11. eh his FIP/xFIP are way lower than they've been previous years. that's a combination of good pitching and not having to face the yankees and red sox so much.... but his ERA is due to bad defense and bad luck. you could certainly make a good case that this is easily his best year, but when it comes to selling that to opposing GMs when his ERA isn't that great, that would be tougher to do. and i'm not saying that other GMs don't realize that he's been good, but they're going to use that (highest WHIP in 4 years; ERA+ only marginally above average) as an excuse to not pay a heavy price for him.
  12. i still maintain that young had the physical tools to be a star, and even the awareness on the field, but he seems like kind of a whacko and that really torpedoed his progress.
  13. you're not allowed to say "our" any more, since you're now a patriots fan. and N&G is right, you're a complete spaz.
  14. to be fair, i think thekapman just copied and pasted that from some indians prospect writeup. there's no way he would write all those positive things about a hispanic player. but the part that really cracks me up is the area about pitch recognition and contact skills: really? so he has very good pitch recognition but still strikes out a ton and doesn't walk. and he makes contact with pitches all over the zone, but struck out 130 times in 106 games last year. right.
  15. your football team made the super bowl like 5 years ago and the conference championship game last year. it's not like you're rooting for the [expletive] texans.
  16. i'll believe it happened that way when i see it in an article not written by the human troll paul sullivan
  17. yeah i'm sure it was a huge letdown that their 21st round pick didn't turn into roger clemens.
  18. most people would disagree with the sentiment that it's cool to bandwagon onto the patriots because you're not happy with the first day of offseason moves from your favorite team?
  19. you realize that other people can read your posts, right?
  20. mcnutt is pitching like [expletive] again. 2 ip, 4 h, 3 er, 3 bb, 1 k, barely over 50% strikes. wtf
  21. That's a blockbuster. Interesting trade. i'm pretty thrilled about it. kolb wasn't going to play, so we basically got a second round pick and a CB who made the pro bowl in 2009 for nothing.
  22. i was just wondering, what does @thekapman think of this deal?
  23. predictably, they didn't do much against him. nice outing from antigua - 7 ip, 7 h (6 singles, 1 double), 3 er, 0 bb, 8 k. that gives him 50 K's against just 10 BB in 48.2 IP. plus he's still really tough on lefties, which gives me hope that if he flames out as a starter he could still be a situational lefty.
  24. i don't understand how people are opposed to getting the call right on the field. seems pretty obvious to do since we have the technology.
  25. Of course, by "a great many" you mean "one person predicted that would be the case 15 months from now, with multiple people disagreeing almost immediately". that one poster's voice carried a LOT of weight. and yeah, like 90% of the organizations in baseball don't have a single player that anyone could say is close to bryce harper/mike trout
