  2. cub fans shouldn't complain about their team not winning a championship because nobody [expletive] cares that the team you like doesn't win enough. sports are supposed to be fun to watch; stop spending your time whining and ruining other peoples' experience. if it's so hard being a cubs fan, then just start cheering for the yankees and you can see your team win a championship every 3 years or whatever.
  3. gibbs has been a huge disappointment. i mean, you don't expect a third round guy to be a star right away, but you expect a guy being drafted pretty early out of LSU to be able to hit. now it's looking like he's a longshot to make it as a weak-hitting, good defensive backup.
  4. but you just typed "they're" in the same sentence as you typed "your." at least show some consistency. just go all out and write "more trouble than their worth."
  5. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110805&content_id=22793674&notebook_id=22794852&vkey=notebook_mil&c_id=mil might not sound that noteworthy, but when he singled in the brewers' win on friday night, he broke an 0-for-45 streak. it was his first hit in 57 days. if he'd gone one more AB without a hit, he would have tied the record for longest streak, held by bill bergen, probably the worst baseball player in history. other useful links: bill bergen's stats (possibly so grotesque they could be considered nsfw: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bergebi01.shtml stephen colbert making fun of counsell (as well as adam dunn): http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/393973/august-04-2011/sport-report---baseball-s-lowest-records--gambling-on-players---stephen-controls-mlb-s-twitter-feed
  6. considering that they've spent the last week getting blown out by the cubs and padres, i think any team would be a tough challenge for them right now. guessing by late august they'll be back to drawing about 35 fans and people will forget that they exist as stiller season fires up.
  7. i mind it if the kid specifically says "i'm done, do not contact me any more, i've committed to _____ and will definitely be attending there." if a coach keeps recruiting a kid at that point, it's over the line (and i think there might actually be rules against it). but if a kid is still two years away from school and has made a soft commitment, i don't have a problem with them being contacted. people change their minds all the time, especially at that age.
  8. dude come on, there is plenty of unethical stuff that goes on in college basketball recruiting, just like there is in college football. calling or writing a 16 year old kid who hasn't closed off the recruiting process is like 9000th on the list of concerns.
  9. for what purpose? why make, say, penn state play a game at indiana st in front of like 10,000 people? psu isn't going to pay for a road game, indiana state's athletic department gets more money from getting paid to go play at psu, and psu's athletic department gets more money from hosting a home game in front of 100,000. really, between conference play and the 1-2 good OOC games that big-time programs play, there is more than enough good college football to go around. if a team plays a joke non-conference schedule every year, presumably they'll be punished by the pollsters and the computers. i think most of the griping comes not because people care about fairness, but because they just want to watch their team play interesting games every week. that's fine, but you have to be aware that there's more that goes into it than just entertaining people.
  10. let's try to stay on topic, this thread is about most exciting hot streak players. respond to the post above mine, and the terrorists win.
  11. i agree that total points are a better tie-breaker. i'd also like to discuss the cutoff for position players burning an exemption, because 50 PA's seems to low in comparison with 5 starts or 10 games pitched for pitchers. not a big deal, just think 100 PA's would put it more in line with the pitching standards.
  12. Again, I know the difference between your and you're, were and we're, I just don't put max effort into my spelling and grammar when posting. again, you put no effort into it, which is why people will continue to give you a hard time. i guess you can just deal with that.
  13. he's also got 6 XBH in 11 games, along with 2 triples and a stolen base. maybe he's not the stereotypical lumbering catcher. from what i can tell, he's hit safely in each of his 11 games as a pro. i'm definitely intrigued as well... puerto rico is pretty well scouted by i still think it's easier to find a 6th round gem there than in the u.s.
  14. yeah i'm pretty sure that if the extent of abuck's contribution was "hey you're breaking the rules" then things would degenerate into name calling and insults. his riling people up until they snap, then saying "whoa easy there crazy guy" is obnoxious and childish. but adam did say that he wasn't going to make any more posts directed at brian, which he seemed to be abiding by until brian flipped out on him in the chat. just ignore each other for the next 2 months and then after the season decide who goes away.
  15. man, watched the video of alonso's home run.. he does not run gracefully at all. i think it took him close to 26 seconds to round the bases. he needs to be traded, because his bat isn't good enough to make up for what is sure to be horrid defense in left.
  16. His dad was also offered a job with a program and accepted it as well. Good timing. hahaha yeah but don't worry, college basketball recruiting is not a cesspool
  17. holy crap i had no idea cueto has been so good this year. i mean, it's a babip mirage combined with a large scoop of unearned runs and a dash of fly balls not leaving the park, but the end product has been really impressive.
  18. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=suzukic01&year=2004&t=b check out his july and august numbers. hell, for the second half of the season he hit .429. he goes through (or maybe i should say went through, since he seems to be old and not that good any more) these phases where he seemed to hit everything on the nose and got on base all the time. tulowitzki is also pretty streaky, hit a ton of home runs last year in september and has really raked after the ASB the last two years. ryan howard is another guy who can look completely lost at some times and then just start hitting home runs like crazy. i don't know that they're hugely exciting, but alex rios and dan uggla are two guys who are notorious for running hot and cold. kelly johnson is another one. aubrey huff seems to do it as well, but sometimes year to year.
  19. yeah as much as i hate to agree with a cardinal fan who's pimping a cardinal player, ozzie smith was that good defensively. in fact, i don't know that it's possible for a guy with a mediocre hit tool and no power whatsoever to be a better player than smith was. he ran the bases well, had good speed, walked frequently (for a guy who pitchers had no reason to be afraid of), struck out rarely and bunted well.
  20. big guy needs to learn to take it easy with the exclamation points
  21. that's silly. schools are independent bodies and should be able to schedule (out of conference) however they want. you also seem to be ignoring the good that these games do for penn state (extra home game = crapload of revenue = provide scholarships, good facilities, etc for non-revenue sports) and indiana state (several hundred thousand dollars goes a long way toward supporting most of the athletic department at a small school). sure, if your only concern is wanting to watch an additional good football game or two a year, then they're "bad for football." otherwise, the arguments against them are stupid.
