  1. smith played 2b, which is a little odd... don't remember him playing much there the past couple of years. hernandez ended 2/4 with a walk, i'm pretty high on him. doesn't strike out much and also has a low error total considering that he's 18 and playing shortstop.
  2. he's having a career year at age 35.
  3. Blast me for this if you will, but if we were to sign all of these overslots, and miss out on Baez, would it be the worst thing in the world? don't get me wrong, he seems very intriguing, but doesn't excite me as much as most of the other top ten picks in the draft, and if we were to miss out on him, we'd end up with 2 top ten picks next year, which would be sweet as long as we didn't use them on any Cubans in their late 20's. next year's draft is not suppose to be as good as this year's. and baez doesn't excite you as much as most other guys picked in the top 10 because he's not as good as most of them and accordingly was picked later than most of them.
  4. I don't know who in their right mind would want Koyie Hill back, besides Jim Hendry. So, if Hendry is back again next year, this could be a moot point. Regardless, wouldn't you rather Clevenger playing every day down in the minors than backing up Soto? Unless, they traded Soto and had Clevenger and Wellington Castillo battle for the starting job in ST and brought in a better veteran catcher than Koyie to be the backup. not really. he'll be 26 years old and he profiles as a backup; it's not like he's joe mauer junior just not getting ABs. this is pretty much as good as he's going to get.
  5. tiger's also leading him in alimony checks and venereal diseases
  6. doesn't seem like he's all the well spoken in english... short sentences and quick answers. don't think he's being rude; he's probably just not that comfortable yet. if he didn't speak much english in the DR then he's only had about 3 years in the u.s., and i know for a fact that in short season ball a lot of the latin players keep together in a group and basically just speak spanish to each other. so really, he probably had that year between daytona/tenn, then last season and this season to be actively learning and trying to speak english. it's also possible that he avoids the media because kaplan and rosenbloom probably tell him how much better he could be if he would just work harder.

  8. saw the video of starlin's home run, that was really nice... clippard is a very good pitcher and pretty much hit his spot, low in the zone. might have been trying to throw about 6 inches farther toward the outside part of the plate, but it really was a pretty good pitch and castro went down and drove it almost 400 feet. awesome.
  9. it's not. but where people thought he should have been drafted is relevant, and i haven't really seen anybody who thought of him as a third round money guy. anyway most they wasted was like $350k, so not worth losing sleep over.
  10. well home run for castro, i've gotten what i wanted out of this game.
  11. struck fell apart in the 5th inning. 4.1 ip, 9 h, 7 er, 1 bb, 3 k. 6 of the 9 hits allowed were doubles. suarez is off to a nice debut at tennessee, 3 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 3 k.
  12. so we're being no hit by a guy who hasn't been good for 3 years.
  13. so assuming that nobody on this board wants koyie hill back next year, who's our backup catcher in 2012? i'm kind of partial to clevenger - very low K rate, bats lefty and hits RHP very well. seems like a perfect complement to soto; can start against RHP on occasions when a night game is followed by a day game.
  14. yeah he gets lost in the excitement about jackson and szczur, but to do what he's done as a 20 year old is pretty nice. the boy needs to learn how to steal bases though (9 sb/12 cs). Where do you think Ha will rank in the Top 10 for the end of the year/start of next season? Is it possible he's a top 5? or more of a 7-10 guy? i don't think he'd be top 5 because jackson and szczur will be ahead of him, baez (assuming he signs) will be ahead, mcnutt should probably still be ahead unless his stuff has collapsed, and i'd expect that a guy like vogelbach (again, assuming he signs) would fall ahead. probably back part of the top 10. could even see him being outside the top 10 (behind guys like vitters, lemahieu, flaherty, etc) depending on how much projection the scouts see in him.

  16. isn't the nfl trade deadline at like week 4?
  17. Shoulders is considered top 10 round talent ($100,000-$150,000 bonus) and there's generally a premium to sign overslot guys who fall as low as he did, so all things considered, I don't really think it's that big a deal if he signed for about $350,000. that's quite a premium. mcnutt only got like $125k. i would have expected somewhere around $150k for shoulders, but $350k seems like too much. same with schlecht; i don't think anyone had him rated as a 4th round prospect so 4th round money seems excessive. but don't get me wrong, i'm happy to see the cubs spending on the draft and i'd much rather have them overspending by $200k on a couple of draftees or international free agents than on guys like grabow or henry blanco.
  18. vitters is 2-3 with a double in game one, but was subbed out defensively in the 5th inning. guess we'll see if he plays game two.
  19. There are lots of nice guys in the NFL, but only Tebow has been able to parlay being nice into getting people to completely ignore that he's not good at being an NFL quarterback, and isn't likely to get good either. look i don't think he'll be much good either, but he only played parts of 9 games and had 82 passes thrown, and he wasn't terrible. it's a bit early to just say he sucks.
  20. he won one tournament, a non-major. he won a tournament last year too.
  21. The main reason we want to make this move is so that we're no longer the little brother. As long as we stay with Texas that will always be the case. The SECede shirts are over the top but if it helps get the message to our administration that we're fed up with the status quo then it's all good. I guess you won't be little brother anymore. I'm not sure what you'll be in the SEC, though, when you're getting pounded annually by Bama, Florida, LSU, Auburn, etc. Is that really a better move for aTm? yeah i was gonna say, they'll go from "little brother" in the big xii to "not really relevant" in the sec. they're still a pretty big player in the big xii; in the sec they're just another team.
  22. I am way more annoyed than I should be that this quote refers to Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, and Tony Siragusa as a "pairing." albert and moose are a pairing, and then siragusa is so fat that he constitutes a pairing by himself.
  23. third round money??? jeez. i between this and the high school kid from illinois i feel like we're now overpaying for amateur talent as well as major league talent.
