  1. would've been nice to save a little more than that, but when you consider that penalver and candelario were basically that amount together, and mcnutt was like $150,000, you realize that $800k can go a pretty long way in amateur spending.
  2. awesome! we drafted a guy in the first round who can't throw breaking pitches in game situations and has had trouble cracking 90 mph. sounds like a keeper.
  3. i think juan pierre once suffered a similar injury.
  4. yet somehow he spelled hiroki kuroda's name right!
  5. (a) one person on an internet message board says that we acquired prospects who don't look that good. (b) where has it been reported that the cubs are paying his full salary?
  6. Well that certainly looks like an ugly return. It's not mind-blowing, but I don't think that's too far off for 2 months of Kosuke. A pen arm close to the big leagues and a toolsy DR OF who has K issues but still has time to work it out. one has to be realistic about fukudome, he's a corner OF who doesn't have much power, is declining defensively and is paid too much to be offered arbitration after the season. he's a two month rental, one that isn't even likely to be worth one win in his indians career, and that's it. really you're only going to get fringy prospects for a guy like that. plus if they're only kicking in half of fukudome's remaining money and they use the leftover $2m or whatever to sign maples, then that should certainly be taken into account.
  7. Who worked around his trademark poor control. And he's let his hair grow out: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_502042.jpg yeah, doesn't seem like archer really pitched all that well. allowed 11 baserunners in 7 innings and only struck out 2 smokies, but the smokies left 13 men on base for the game without scoring a run.
  8. Sounds about right with Hendry at the helm. Yup he's never turned around a 90 loss team into a playoff team in one season. Anything is possible with a 120+ million payroll. He's a horrible GM and good luck to you for having faith in him. yeah because that's exactly what umfan said. also, you said that the cubs will be horrible next year, but now you're saying that anything is possible... which is it?
  9. i'm going to be optimistic and say that our next chance to contend will be 2020.
  10. i have bad news for you. davearm suggested that like 8 pages ago. you're thinking the same way as davearm.
  11. i believe they're referred to as "umpires" in baseball
  12. you know, for people who claim to hate genocidal maniacs, historians seem to spend an extraordinary amount of time and energy talking about adolf hitler. just sayin'.
  13. he didn't get that much of him. really there's no reason for a catcher to sweep tag. it's a bad call because it was wrong and you can't make that call if the guy actually tagged him, but i've seen way worse calls than that. hell bruce froemming was good for 5 worse calls than that every season.
  14. there are a few names that have no business being on this list. konerko was traded twice - at age 21 and age 22 - once for the old "proven closer" (jeff shaw) and then the next time for mike cameron. the two years he was traded he was OPS'ing over 1.000 in AAA, so he certainly didn't flop for one organization before turning good for another org. hafner was inexplicably traded for einar diaz; at the time of the trade hafner was one of the better 1b prospects in baseball. i would argue against gonzalez being on this list because he was still young when florida traded him for something of value (ugie urbina) and then by the time he was dealt to san diego for another player of value (chris young), he was raking in AAA and was blocked by teixeira. david ortiz was still a solid hitter for minnesota, then his power/steroids blossomed with the red sox. but he wasn't a bust by any means. and joe nathan was one of the better setup men in baseball the year before the giants traded him to the twins (and what a bad trade that was)
  15. ryan theriot's attitude and affliction t-shirts make me want to punch him in the face.
  16. man if you're gonna make a call like that when the ball beats the runner by 5 feet, you better be right... and he definitely wasn't right. what a screw job.
  17. Because if anything, it's speed that the Eagles lack on offense/Special Teams........ he's an undrafted free agent, you don't go out looking to fill holes on your team with rookie free agents or ignore players you think might be good because you already have players like them on your roster.
  18. Well the pirates can comfort themselves knowing that baseball still has that awesome "human element"!
  19. are you kidding me with this guy? http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/sp/v/mlb/players_l/20110503x/8583.jpg?x=65&y=85&xc=1&yc=1&wc=164&hc=215&q=100&sig=b3BqIVrUNzpqRZLxMMj51Q--
  20. i wonder if toews paid for her [expletive] or if she bought them herself.
