  1. well dempster is over 100 pitches, the cubs had yesterday off so the bullpen is rested, and dempster is due to bat first. this should be an obvious PH situation, but quade has fucked this up before.
  2. another injury - dong-yub kim was hbp and immediately pinch run for in the AZL cubs win today.
  3. he's not a prospect, but justin germano threw a perfect game for AAA columbus tonight. jason kipnis was called up by cleveland a couple of days ago and his first hit was a walkoff single last night.
  4. if only the reds had a manager who was largely responsible for ruining the most promising cubs pitching prospect in decades...
  5. i dunno... this happened in the half inning before he was PH for, maybe he got hurt on one of these plays?
  6. i don't really get why a guy would get drafted, play decent baseball for a month and the retire. i guess maybe he just decided he wasn't going to make it in baseball or didn't like the minor league lifestyle, and decided to get his career started sooner rather than later.
  7. this can't possibly be true. his wOBA was .317 in 2007 and .285 in 2008.

  9. dude enough with the [expletive] lahair, he was never a highly touted prospect. he made it to #16 on the shitty mariners' top 30 list.
  10. hill and morales have combined for 20 innings this year. i'm not quite sure why you've got your panties in such a bunch, considering that i mostly agreed with your points. what i wasn't clear about was how one is to know that thoroughly useless players like melky cabrera and jeff francoeur will become good for a year, while sean burroughs and andy laroche will continue to suck. or even a guy like albers, who had been pitching in the major leagues for 5 years with poor success and lousy peripherals, would turn into a good relief pitcher. he was never even that great a prospect for houston. i guess i'm just not clear on why we should give the red sox a lot of credit for albers when he doesn't seem far from the type of guy you're saying the cubs shouldn't be keeping around.
  11. yeah i'm not saying you shouldn't celebrate it and be happy about it, and continue to feel happy about it. and i don't blame people for talking trash in the heat of the moment, like people did to me when the blackhawks finished off the flyers in the finals. but the super bowl was 6 months ago; to still be rubbing it in the faces of bears fans is just embarrassing.
  12. right because impact player and non-contributor are exactly the same thing.
  13. doesn't dewitt fit the profile of the guys you're talking about? a formerly highly-rated prospect who isn't too far along from being labelled a bust?
  14. yeah i don't know what the [expletive] is going on with that post.
  15. we use it up on no-upside stiffs like Koyie Hill, Montanez, Reed Johnson instead, and the Red Sox found spots for Saltalamacchia, Andrew Miller, Rocco Baldelli, Rich Hill, Matt Albers, Franklin Morales, Jeremy Hermida on their roster but what the [expletive] do they know? saltalamacchia is the only one of those players who has made much of an impact, and even he owes a lot of thanks to fenway and babip. they also have bobby jenks, who has been God-awful. i agree that it's better to give AAA spots to guys like hermida or baldelli than turds like montanez, but realistically you're just not going to have a "breakthrough" (many would say fluke) like melky cabrera because the cubs aren't going to have playing time set aside for a guy who has been a busted prospect for 3 years.
  16. there's nothing worse than watching a bunch of fans who had nothing to do with their team winning anything gloat about that team's success. well there are things worse than that, but still it's really obnoxious.
  17. between that post and calling aramis/soriano lazy, i'm pretty close to accusing him of something.
  18. are we going to have to hear about the packers winning the super bowl throughout the entire 2011 season? if so then i wish the season had gotten cancelled by the lockout.
  19. i love paul hoilman's line: .252/.408/.513/.920 with 9 home runs and 54 strikeouts in 37 games. seems like a real Three True Outcomes guy. also, su-min jung and cam greathouse really should not be piggybacked, unless boise just wants to see how many opposing batters they can walk every 5 games.
  20. why stop at 5 years? the cubs MAY not ever contend for the rest of their existence.
  21. Who would they target in return? Brandon Allen? Bobby Borchering? Paul Goldschmidt? Is Jarrod Parker aiming too high? parker is aiming way, way too high. actually any of those names would be kind of a miracle for a 2-month rental of pena.
  22. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
  23. the other issue i have is that all of the names on sneaky's list (save salty at catcher) are playing for mid or small market teams. clubs like the royals, pirates and padres don't really have other options than giving busted prospects a chance, often when their own guys get hurt (pedro alvarez) or are ineffective (dan johnson). the royals were probably just hoping they'd get not-terrible production out of melky. this is the sort of thing that small market clubs can do. teams like the cubs, phillies, yankees, etc don't have the roster space to take on the AAAA all-stars and 2006 BA prospect handbook top 20, hoping that they can hack it. plus there is a lot of trial and error/hope involved... other guys who have gotten ABs and still can't hit this year include sean burroughs, mark teahen, kouzmanoff and andy laroche. if you're a team like the cubs and you go into a season hoping that you've got 2011 melky cabrera instead of 2011 sean burroughs, your season is probably already in trouble.
  24. after seeing that davearm2 supports the playing of the song i have changed my position and now believe that it should NOT be played.
