  2. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-newswire-20130921,0,2125683.story#axzz2fVPQjCKq at this point maybe we should just start to count the number of ncaa football programs that AREN'T blatantly breaking ncaa rules.
  3. barney would be really good as a backup middle infielder, since he can play both 2b and ss. as a full-time starter he's overmatched with the bat.
  4. My guess is that Vizcaino's stuff hasn't come back, and the Cubs want to hide him from the rest of the baseball world as he throws in the 80'swith no command. i'm not really sure what the motivation would be to "hide him from the rest of baseball." it's not like he has much trade value at the moment.
  5. I don't mind Baez. He did enough this year. Vizcaino, on the other hand - I understand the thought process, but I also can't help but wonder if there's something more to it, given the setbacks this season.
  6. i would probably put it above the coors lights and budweisers of the world, but that's really damning with faint praise.
  7. it's like he actively went out of his way to be offensive in the closing of the article.
  8. minnesota cubs fan nope, didn't even know he was in the league.

  10. that's true, but i think singleton's K rate wasn't all that glaring in 2011-12 (~24%), given his high walk rate. this year it was definitely up, but he's still quite young for his levels and i could see how missing the first two months of game action (why are we even suspending baseball players for positive marijuana tests?) would make him pretty rusty.
  11. i know that jonathan singleton had a down year, but i'd take him over vogelbach pretty easily. vogelbach's age 20 season: .284/.375/.449/.824 between low A and high A singleton's age 20 season: .284/.396/.497/.893 in AA
  12. ned yost has always been abysmal at managing the bullpen. i remember just before he was canned, he made one of the stupidest moves i've ever seen a manager make. baseball prospectus did a nice job ridiculing it:
  13. i wonder if vitters will be in another organization come next year. depends on 40-man roster space and how highly the cubs view him, i assume. seems like he's being passed by pretty much everybody.
  14. i assume that means debut in instructs? i can't imagine they'd be talking about playing live games in the spring, meaning that he'd be playing in kane county without ever playing a game in the DSL, AZL or NWL.
  15. i don't even know who jeff w is.
  16. Yuengling is good for a mass produced/low price beer (better than Coors/Miller/Bud crap) but worse than most microbrews. Which is fine, because it's priced competitively with stuff like Bud and Coors Light. And PBR is bad yet hipsters enjoy drinking cans of it ironically. I think they have been drinking it ironically for so long that now many of them just like the beer, inexplicably.
  17. i'm not really an ace on the arbitration and team control stuff, but i know there are various points throughout the season which are benchmarks as far as team control. i thought they could set his arbitration clock by a year just by keeping him in the minors until late april or mid may or something. seems to me that a pathetic team should take advantage of that. but you're right about loria, he's probably raking in money because of revenue sharing and their pathetically low payroll.

  19. brady is just never going to throw to this dobson guy again.
  20. the marlins should have hit him in the next at bat for hitting one of their fans in the dick.
  21. It's basically a keeper league draft - these kids will probably play in the DWL minor leagues until they're ready for actual DWL games. FYI, Mondesi is pretty well regarded. Jason Parks rated him as the 38th best prospect in baseball in his midseason list. yeah i know he's a good prospect, but that's predicated on him having held his own at age 17 in a full season league. present moment, candelario is a better player. but it makes a lot more sense drafting him first since you said that it's basically a keeper format.
  22. i assume mondesi jr was first because of name recognition and wanting to sell tickets, since candelario (and probably a lot of other guys) are better than him right now.
  23. i want to punch jason parks in the face. what a worthless article.
  24. depends whether they were mocking him because they thought he wasn't ready or because they were burning a full year of team control on a team that everybody knew was going to be terrible.
