    there is plenty to indicate that this year was flukish, namely that it is completely out of line with what he had done in the previous 5 years of his professional career. even if he just reverts to being a 2 WAR player, that does not qualify as terrible. so yes, it's considerably more likely that he'll at least be a decent baseball player than a guy who completely lost all of his ability to play the game well at age 23.

    I think you forgot that there's a pretty decent chance that Starlin Castro is terrible. there is a vastly better chance that he is not. Nah. Not even close to vastly better. well, he was very good throughout the minors and good to very good for three major league seasons, but i guess he might be terrible based on one terrible year that is clearly an outlier to everything else he has done in his career, at an age when players are normally still improving.

    i don't even know where to start that conversation. probably taveras and martinez, then whoever their best starter is in the low minors (assuming that miller and wacha are not being moved).

    There are plenty of Bulls and Bears fans who loathe the White Sox and everything they stand for. (As well they should) yeah, because they're cub fans. the people who root for the red sox are the exact same people who root for the celtics. there, at least that one makes sense.

    it's pretty funny that the cards put shelby miller on the active roster to face the pirates and red sox, but he's only pitched one inning of mop-up against the pirates and hasn't appeared in a game in this series.

    well despite john farrell's impersonation of grady little, the sox survived that inning, with the bonus of working through the heart of the cards' lineup.

    considering that the cards had a line of .330/.402/.463/.865 this season with runners in scoring position, versus .236/.297/.356/.653 with the bases empty, i'm finding this regression to the mean to be delightful.

    after watching this postseason, i really do not think very highly of matheny as a manager.

    also, what is with walking ortiz intentionally in the third inning of a scoreless game with only one out? he's been hot, but it's silly to treat him like he's steroid-era bonds. that walk tacked on 2% to the sox' win expectancy, by itself.
