  1. i agree that it would be nice to have a catchall "hate on tom ricketts" thread rather than have every transaction thread devolve into griping about how we won't sign ____ because #poortomricketts
  2. Sorry, but I'm going to have to see it before I give them credit for it. well, he took over a roster and a minor league system largely bereft of talent, and the owner yanked payroll down by $30-40m per year when most clubs in the game have been rolling in dough. i'm not too sure what you expected was going to happen.
  3. i definitely still enjoy it, but if i might make a suggestion - perhaps you could use some sort of weighted average for grouping the players, rather than just the most recent year's total? or even use your own discretion in ranking players? reason i ask is that almost everyone picked players like rizzo (rookie from previous year), votto (injury-plagued 2012), longoria (injury-plagued 2012) and adrian gonzalez (unusually poor 2012) in group D, which made it a little less interesting for me. i will still participate no matter what - just thought i would share my thoughts. thanks again for running the contest!
  4. well i will say, if ricketts was gonna go cheap at least he was smart enough to hire an awesome front office that has the capability to win while being constrained by a mid-market payroll. jim hendry with a mediocre payroll would've been a train wreck.
  5. hopefully it's a hemorrhoid flare-up
  6. i once had a romantic encounter in which the bedroom door was accidentally left ajar, and my girlfriend's puppy came in while we were having sex and started humping my leg (which was hanging off the bed). not gonna lie it kinda ruined the mood. (for 5 minutes)
  7. i wish they'd trade him to the cubs so that moronic cub fans could moan about how overrated he is.
  8. Accounts or just changed his name a lot? I remember him as WeGotWood. i didn't really remember him being crazy under the name WeGotWood, but it's like when he turned into KingKongvsGodzilla he just had a complete meltdown.
  9. bryant is an extra base hit machine.
  10. lol, how old is the scout who's making satchel paige comps?
  11. i saw randall cunningham in a bowling alley when i was a kid. i played basketball with ron anderson (former 6th man for the sixers) when i was in like 9th grade. i have no idea what he was even doing at the ymca on a weekday afternoon. at the time ron anderson was trying to stay in shape and hoping for a 10 day contract from another NBA team (he'd just been on a 10 day contract with the nets). he was 35, but it was like 2 years removed from him averaging about 15 ppg for an NBA team. we split up teams and my team was me (a gangly white kid with zero vertical leap and a decent jump shot), some short pudgy 45 year old white guy, and ron anderson. he tried to pass to us but mostly he just ran around burying jumpers whenever the score would get close. he probably could've found a better game at like 500 other places in south jersey or philly. i also saw brad garrett in the security line at LAX in 2010 with some hot blonde who was probably half his age.
  12. yeah, santana's figure is especially hilarious. his fWAR the past 5 years is 7.6, and that's when he's supposedly in his prime. so you're either hoping he improves a lot, or you're paying around $13m per WAR for the next 5 years, assuming that he doesn't get worse as he heads into his mid 30s.
  13. http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view4/1660106/larry-david-laughter-o.gif crowdsourcing (fangraphs) had santana at 3/40 and nolasco at 4/50.5
  14. This board also wouldn't trade Soto for Mike Trout. We have a tendency to overvalue our own players. Wait, when was this? Like when Trout was in A ball and wasn't a huge/well known prospect yet? I'm not saying I/we don't have times of overvaluing our own guys but I never recall that conversation. It's when he was the best prospect in baseball: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=58544&p=2532606&hilit=trout#p2532606 please don't let me be one of those people please don't let me be one of those people. ah [expletive].
  15. that 1-15 prediction you made for the panthers is not looking too promising.
  16. i can't believe matt mcgloin is playing in an nfl game.
  17. i don't understand how the eagles can have games like this and the one they had against the redskins early in the year, then struggle to score against the giants and cowboys.
  18. that sports writer who voted emery 3rd star should be banned from participating in those. what a complete idiot. and emery should get suspended; that was ridiculous. just a completely pathetic season from my flyers so far.
  19. if we're drawing conclusions based on three games then i'm booking my sixers nba finals tickets tomorrow.
  20. lol, sixers can't even tank right. i'm just glad that michael carter-williams really looks like he can play and tony wroten is showing development. sadly, the sixers might be the most promising team in philly.
  21. The line about not giving up a draft pick makes no sense to me. They'd prefer to keep a draft pick vs. giving up multiple established, talented, and developing minor leaguers? This is from Peter Gammons, so... first team in history with a 10 man rotation.
  22. well there goes any hope of the system being ranked #1.
  23. Corey Hart and Chris Young are going to get one year contracts for 7-10 mill apiece. teams shouldn't be allowed to have a $13m payroll. what a joke.
