  1. Yeah, as much as I hate Dusty, I have little doubt he's telling the truth. It's not that I doubt him...I know that there's plenty of racist [expletive] out there...but the fact that he brings it up every time he gets fired is just bad timing. It just makes it look like whining/excuse making. plus it's not like the reds completely collapsed in the last two weeks. they made the wild card game pretty comfortably. the only thing they really did was dump that series against the pirates in cincy, but that wasn't more than a week ago. i find it hard to believe that there's been some sudden deluge of racist mail pouring into him during september.
  2. https://vine.co/v/hgteApLUFTD Holy [expletive] !!! [expletive] that dude. lol @ mack brown. what a piece of [expletive]. the other player clearly let up and then the texas guy dove at his knees.
  3. too bad he doesn't play football so that he could sign a few hundred autographs for $$$, drive an escalade from the local dealer/booster and then go take a course where he doesn't have to turn up and can answer final exam questions about how many points a field goal is worth.
  4. people didn't get energized about the indians because of francona, they got energized because the indians won way more games than they lost and made the playoffs. like 12 people would get excited about joe girardi, manager, and 4 of them would stick around once the cubs stink. the way to get ticket sales back to where they were is to win games.
  5. i'm amazed that tony gonzalez is still this good. dude has been around forever and plays a position that's pretty demanding physically. also, he's missed one game in his career.
  6. eagles defense: bad.
  7. Second half xFIP of 3.68. I love advanced stats, but he's sucked. Unlucky somewhat? Maybe a bit. But he's walking more guys and getting hit hard. Just not a fan of his season, at least to what I was thinking it could be. his second half line drive percentage is lower than the first half. his walk rate was up half a walk per 9 innings though.
  8. between that and sliding his face into another player's ass, villar has had a hell of a month.
  9. i assume there will be plenty of interest in beinfest, since he's good at his job. nobody could polish the turd that loria gave him.
  10. agreed. yankees did the send-off perfectly (well, besides having him close out a world series game). i always admired the way he went about things - seemed like nobody ever had a bad word to say about him. even red sox fans, who hate everyone associated with the yankees, seemed to have a lot of respect for him. leaving out his rookie year, when he was mostly a starter, he had 11 seasons with an ERA under 2.00 and only 7 over 2.00. as a reliever, batters hit .207/.257/.284/.541 against him. pretty damn good.
  11. calling adam jones, adam laroche and hunter pence "that guy" is really a stretch.
  12. after the trade deadline, there's really not a huge incentive to tank. moving up a few spots in the draft isn't very important in baseball, certainly not like it is in (for example) basketball. and every major professional sport has some incentive to tank, whether it be to increase chances in the lottery (nba) or making the draft order simply the reverse order of finish. the much bigger reason to "tank" and not finish 15th is because it makes far more sense to turn an asset like garza into edwards, olt, ramirez and grimm than it does to win another two games the rest of that season, and still miss the playoffs.
  13. i don't totally love it, but in terms of pure marketing, it's a great idea. same with making the all-star game result determine home field advantage in the WS. i remember the all-star game thread being like 40 pages in 2008. it definitely boosts interest from fans of teams who think their team might make the WS.
  14. much better. there hasn't been a strike or lockout in 20 years and the game is more profitable and popular than it was when he took over. expanded postseason has been a roaring success as well. baseball - which was already a strong and well-developed industry when he began - has seen its revenue grow by 600 percent in less than 20 years. if a ceo oversaw that kind of growth, he'd be regarded as a genius. the attempted contraction of the twins and expos was probably the biggest black mark on his record. still, maybe the best mlb commissioner in history and should be in cooperstown soon.
  15. then reed johnson charges out and busts puig over the head with a folding chair.
  16. i'm also watching the video convinced that gomez was going to deck one of his teammates. dude completely lost it. Yeah, I almost added something about Gomez too. You don't often see the sustained crazy eyes like that. i'm not sure who his teammate was holding him back at the backstop, but that guy deserves some credit. gomez was throwing elbows. and boy do i ever get annoyed watching announcers' homer accounts of brawls. "it looks like mccann, maholm and freeman are the only ones doing the talking here." yeah because they're telling gomez to run, since he dropped the bat and was practically still in the batters box staring down the pitcher when the ball landed. then at the end of the clip they show gomez getting hit in the knee in a game back in june, and the guy says that it looks like it was intentional. based on what?!? it was an inside fastball. they showed a 5 second clip of him getting hit, without any context around it whatsoever. it's not like the ball went behind him. and you know the guys in the booth would've been moaning about the home run hitter showing up the pitcher if the hitter played for the braves and the pitcher played for the brewers. F off.

  18. Other teams should be much more respectful like the Braves celebration the night before. http://wapc.mlb.com/atl/play/?c_id=atl&content_id=30905403&topic_id=8879214 what is this?!? the braves celebrated a walkoff win like every other team in baseball celebrates a walkoff win. it's not like the ran over in front of the brewers' dugout and whipped out their junk.
  19. too heavy on the commercial zoning imo
  20. what a weird criticism. torrez has 15 walks in 169 professional innings. isn't "thrower" normally associated with a pitcher who has spotty command?
  21. jeez jacksonville is [expletive] terrible.
  22. toronto signed david clarkson for 7 years, $36.75 million? Christ.
  23. went to the AFL preliminary final last night between the fremantle dockers and sydney swans. it was a great atmosphere - freo's biggest game in their history. they came into the league in 1994 and have been bottom feeders for a lot of that time, and this game was their best ever chance to make the grand final (next weekend). they played like a house on fire for the first 3 quarters and took a lead of almost 50 points going into the 4th quarter, then put it on cruise control and won by 25. should be a great grand final next weekend. pretty much all thursday and friday flights from perth to melbourne are sold out, or priced above $1000 one way (normally about $250). http://niche-desktop-testing.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/FremantleDockers1.jpg vs. http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j417/Lion_Cub_16/AFL%20Jersey%20Portfolio/HawthornLogo.png date: saturday, 29th september, 2:30pm local time (12:30am eastern u.s. time), melbourne cricket ground. line: hawthorn are favored by 9.5 points. tv (in the usa): fox soccer plus
