  1. why, because 27 year old pitchers with good stuff who have been close to league average for most of their career never get signed to league minimum non-guaranteed deals?
  2. while i don't think it would be good for the club or the city, the spiteful part of me just wants the cubs to say "[expletive] it" and go build a stadium out in schaumburg or whatever. see how happy tom tunney's constituents are when his dumb ass obstruction drives away tens of millions of dollars from the local economy.
  3. does this guy know that there are ways to prevent people from raining glass bottles onto the streets below them? what a prick.
  4. and speaking of ted williams, he played in the major leagues from age 20 to age 41 and had ONE season (age 40) with an ops under 1.000. his ops that year was .791 and he was suffering from multiple injuries, the worst being a neck injury that made it difficult for him to even turn his head to look at the pitcher. then in his goodbye season (1960, age 41) he hit .316/.451/.645/1.096.
  5. basically ted williams with better defense and not losing four of his prime years flying around shooting asian people out of the sky.
  6. Yeah, that was my exact argument. My friend tried to say Machado was more valuable because great third basemen are harder to come by than great outfielders. That is true, but Trout is probably the best player in baseball now as a 21 year old. I guess a more interesting question would be if you had to pick one young pitcher, who would it be? well he's not that young, but clayton kershaw. i guess after that, probably jose fernandez, since matt harvey's arm is falling off.
  7. full feature: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih3zEkjAdrM epic little kid rat tail at 1:02.
  8. edwards turned 22 all of 2 days ago. he is not old for high A ball. by that standard, every college junior drafted in 2012 who hasn't reached AA is too old for his level. and what's the deal with edwards being drafted in 2011? he was picked straight out of high school, but he would've been 19 years and 9 months old then. was he held back a year in school at some point?
  9. trout, and i couldn't even really give another name to go along with him. i mean, harper is really good and will be a beast, but he's had some knee and hip issues already. and the main thing is, trout is putting up back to back 10 war seasons as a [expletive] 20/21 year old. what you dream that harper or machado might possibly become, mike trout already is. he is the only answer to "what mlb player would you start a franchise with right now?"
  10. boise win 11-7 and are on to the nwl championship series.
  11. daytona win and will face the charlotte stone crabs in the FSL championship series. boise is up 8-4 after 4 innings in their game, looking to sweep the 3 game series. underwood gave up 3 runs in the 2nd inning and was lifted. justin marra has 2 doubles and 4 rbi.
  12. daytona had its no hitter broken up with 1 out in the 9th inning. still up 4-0 though.
  13. two run double for bryant in the third inning, daytona up 3-0.
  14. Really, is that true? Those two are the gift that keeps on giving for Toronto. Now they get to take postseason innings away from young pitchers. AA got thisclose to becoming an upper echelon GM, then shot his wad a year too early. Going to be tough for him now. no, i was just making a joke because i thought it was bush league that they sent down a 28 year old pitcher with a sub-2.00 ERA at AA so that he could pitch a playoff game for a single A club.
  15. boise win the series opener 3-0. daytona is up 6-0 in the 8th inning. big game for them since dunedin will be starting r.a. dickey and mark buehrle in the next two games.
  16. daytona scored 5 in the 6th inning to go up 6-0. a lot of walks and a couple of errors, plus a two run single by byrant, who's 2-3.

  18. Christ, stop whining. the cubs bring in a reliever who's had a great year in the minors and is making his major league debut. enjoy something for once.
  19. now 13 in a row, and add another K. corey black has also been very good: 5 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 1 bb, 7 k.
  20. why is he "poor man's" elvis andrus? lindor has put up better numbers in the minor leagues; most notably, a K rate that's 50 percent lower and a BB rate that's about 20 percent higher.
  21. don't think he lasted 17 seconds, or don't think he's had a sexual encounter?
  22. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=502212 looks like he was pitching at that level through early may, then called up to AA (where he had an ERA under 2.00), then sent back down about 3 weeks ago. if they did that just to get him into the FSL playoffs, that's pretty pathetic. it's not like he's a young prospect who could use the added game experience; he's 28 and played the full season, and is clearly too advanced for that level.
  23. paniagua's last non-pathetic outing was a month ago. his whip at boise is over 3.
  24. eagles, redskins, texans and chargers all with the first week bye.
  25. would've worked better a couple of weeks ago. iowa's season is over so it made no sense now.
