  1. Unfortunately, he can keep writing good articles, but I really don't have a lot of hope that the circus in the front office will ever get the idea.
  2. Guess I can still root for a top 5 finish
  3. and the giants before that, the cardinals before that, the phillies before that, the astros before that, the pirates before that, the dbacks before that, and the cardinals before that. last eight outings... 50 ip, 36 h, 13 er, 14 bb, 45 k's, whip of 1.00, era of 2.34. just for fun, if you throw out his one bad start, those seven outings come out to... 45 1/3 ip, 30 h, 7 er, 9 bb, 43 k's, whip of .86, era of 1.39. Yeah but guys have had a good stretch without turning it into a consistently good career. I think we're seeing that Hill is not just a AAAA pitcher like some thought (probably some within the Cubs' organization as well). And, many people have said that his ceiling is a #3/4 starter. I think that, with his strikeout rate and H/9 rate, that he actually could be a #2 starter if everything turned out right - which, this being the Cubs, it won't.
  4. I'm picking J.P. Losman every week he's available.
  5. KC and TB will have a tough time winning tonight. TB is already down 3-0 to the Twins, facing the defending AL Cy Young winner (who might be the 2006 winner as well). KC has a guy with an ERA pushing 8, going against Mike Mussina. The Cubs really need to find a way to lose tonight.
  6. I really don't see any way the White Sox win again this year. Their pitching sucks.
  7. Howard: 591 AB, 105 R, 183 H, 21 2B, 62 HR, 158 RBI .403/.665/1.068 174 AB with RISP, 284 AB with runners on projected over the same # of ABs... Pujols: 591 AB, 136 R, 190 H, 50 2B, 58 HR, 155 RBI .423/.681/1.104 139 AB with RISP, 267 AB with runners on Same ridiculous pace, but he's giving better production with more limited opportunities. Yes, but the problem is, if they both are healthy the rest of the year, Pujols won't have the same number of ABs. While it's not his fault that he got hurt, he'll likely finish the season having played about 15 games fewer than Howard. In a close race, that can and should make a difference.
  8. I bet if Pujols were having the great second half, you'd have argued differently :D Actually the best argument for him being MVP is the projected finish of 62 HR, around 160 RBI and an OPS of 1.060. Regardless of whether the Phillies make the playoffs, those stats are ridiculous.
  9. 5 pitches per batter? Is this the Cubs we're talking about? Most certainly is. Of course.......... CUBS are 20-18 when they average 3.4 P/PA or fewer.... 35-63 when they don't Go CUBS !! Another bizarro stat
  10. 5 pitches per batter? Is this the Cubs we're talking about?
  11. Oh, because the O-H-I-O chants are so awesome. They actually do those because Ohio State grads are proud that they can spell the name of their own state.
  12. not as bad as my problem, fortunately for you
  13. Heck no, I don't want him to get used to losing. well, he'll have to be traded then. There's no other way in the Cub organization.
  14. Michael Barrett did his part for the cause - to say he took one for the team is a giant understatement.
  15. Devilrays killed the Crocodile hunter
  16. I give Howard extra credit for carrying the Phillies back into the wild card chase despite trading away Abreu and Lidle. Numbers since the All-Star break: Pujols: 328/405/639/1044; 37 runs, 13 HR, 38 RBI Howard: 359/491/793/1284; 43 runs, 24 HR, 62 RBI Add in the fact that Pujols has played 17 games fewer than Howard, and I say that gives Howard a slight edge over Pujols. One of Howard's most remarkable numbers is his HR/F - home runs per outfield fly ball. 38.3% of his fly balls to the outfield end up as HRs. The next highest figures are Travis Hafner at 30.7% and David Ortiz at 26.3%.
  17. This was the description on the yahoo player information: Uh, don't they normally not going into that much detail when it's an injury to a sensitive area? Wouldn't "groin injury" have sufficed?
  18. 3 HR for the Phillies today, bringing him to 52 overall. If he stays healthy, he's probably going to top 60 homers - in his second year in the league. If there's one guy out there who has a legitimate shot to break Bonds' record without the help of a needle or a creative physical trainer (ala Greg Anderson), it's Ryan Howard. NL MVP, in my book.
  19. I can honestly say that most ND fans hate ESPN. I hate ESPN. Doesn't have anything to do with the Irish, but I do. Anyways. 2 hours, 20 minutes. WE ARE! It's we are Penn State... what's this we are stuff from Notre Dame? Go Tech :P
  20. Manny Ramirez has great numbers and doesn't play the game particularly hard. Somehow he won a championship and came within perhaps an Eric Gregg strike zone of having two rings.
  21. I don't disagree that Jeter is a great leader. But you'd say Jeter is a great player because he's a gamer, a leader, does the little things right. I'd say Jeter is a great player because he has a career OPS+ of 121 with a stat line of 314/386/461 at a premium defensive position. That other stuff, to me, is just gravy.
  22. I was saying the same thing during the World Cup. Yeah, unfortunately it was impossible to not notice just about all of the refs during the World Cup.
  23. The Raiders are ranked 25th, which seems about right. Theismann's coach of the year makes no sense. He picks Brad Childress from the Vikings, but doesn't have the Vikes making the playoffs. Now, if it were a guy taking the Texans to a 9-7 record and just missing the playoffs, I could see it. But the Vikings weren't that bad last year, and if they miss the playoffs in the weaker conference - what exactly would the coach have done to deserve this award?
  24. well, back to the drawing board, roast
  25. bump i like rich hill
