They gave up 37 points to the 5th best team in the Big 10. I'm tempering my enthusiasm a bit. May be the fifth best team in the big ten, but it's one of the most potent offenses (maybe in the country). Now MSU can go on it's annual slide and it won't ruin ND's strength of schedule. Even MSU can't lose a home game to Illinois (this weekend). But they'll get trounced at Ann Arbor and then hosting the Buckeyes, and I expect them to lose one of their next two games (@NW'ern or @Indiana). They'll probably finish 5-6 and John L. will get canned.

Late in the third, I said "there is still time for Michigan State to show up." I didn't mean Notre Dame - I meant the MSU I've come to know and love. And sure enough, they came through with flying colors.

How were Moo fans crying? Do they live in a cave? Do they not know that the history of crushing MSU collapses? I was expecting it - I just didn't know whether it would be tonight or another time. For a dysfunctional football program, they're very predictable.

Wow is this not classic Michigan State? Year after year, they manage to inexplicably lose a game and then totally disintigrate for the rest of the schedule. Watching this game with friends earlier, we all agreed that if any team could blow the game, it would be Moo. Game over.

Well, the bad news for the Tigers tonight was that their #7 hitter, Brandon Inge, grounded out with the bases loaded to end the first inning. The good news for the Tigers - it was his second at bat of the inning. For the second time in just over a month, the Royals have allowed double-digit runs in the first inning. Way to go, guys.
