  1. I'll have to disagree with you on this. How many people are members of the 40/40/40 club? I don't really care. It's a worthless stat. His overall numbers don't compare to true superstars, his unique speed/power combo makes him a good story, but not as productive as actual superstars. Just because you don't like him that much doesn't mean he's not a superstar. and just because you think he's a superstar, doesn't mean he is. and you'd be right. especially if you're talking about berkman. who the hell cares if he is "known"...what does that even mean? that he played on the yankees and they talk about him on sportscenter? that's just ridiculous. no it's not. If he'd said that Soriano is not as good a player as someone like Drew or Berkman, fine. Superstar involves the word "star." Keanu Reeves can't act, but he's a superstar; someone like William H. Macy is not. You're arguing something completely different. Use a different word if you want agreement from me.
  2. Wasn't Iona in the NCAA tourney 2 or 3 years ago? yeah, they've taken quite the nosedive since then. Our center leads Navy 25-22 in the second half
  3. or the eddie murphy skit in "amazon women on the moon" where he gets home from work and then every possible disaster befalls him... obscure but extremely funny oops never mind it was arsenio hall
  4. game of the night... Iona (1-24) @ St. Peter's (3-22)

  6. so who else is tuned in to the holy cross-navy game going on right now??? haha navy is on pace for about 15 points in the game... 6:51 left in the first half, 25-6 and now during the commercial break, the holy cross color guy is asking the play-by-play guy if he got that extra pair of underwear he needed last night. No commercial breaks on the internet, guys...
  7. Doesn't matter... I just want top two. That way the Sixers get Oden or Durant, both of whom would be really useful. Iguodala has really come on since the Iverson trade and could play the 2 or 3, and Durant can play the 3 or 4. Oden will just be really good, and who gives a crap about Dalembert - they'd find a place for Oden to play. Or just go big and be great defensively and on the boards. I just don't want the Sixers to draft 3rd and select that Michael Jackson-looking guy.
  8. Not really... the Cubs were incompetent offensively and needed to make a splash this offseason, even if it meant overpaying. The Astros also needed an impact bat, with Bagwell's retirement and Ensberg regressing severely last year, especially after the All-Star Break. Sometimes it's worth it to overpay.
  9. sounds like a solid offer to me... at least a very reasonable starting point. I'll be surprised if a deal is not done before the start of the season.
  10. Blame my dad... he is a big Cubs fan from when he got his PhD at U. of Chicago. I had a choice with the Eagles, Flyers and Sixers, but was given no choice in my rooting interest for baseball.
  11. (insert obligatory gay bar joke)

His overall numbers don't compare to true superstars, his unique speed/power combo makes him a good story, but not as productive as actual superstars. Soriano is known because he has a lot of speed and power.
  13. some article (Daily Herald?) said Prior was ahead of Miller, who is in the long-toss phase of his rehab. didnt say where prior was, though. how is miller rehabbing? he was pitching in the big leagues in september? But not at 100%. few pitchers pitch at 100%. as far as i know teams dont rehab players (especially pitchers) in the majors. It also doesn't make sense that Miller was pitching in the majors in September and is only doing long toss now. That would be the case if he'd suffered another injury.
  14. I agree. I'd never heard him do a Cub game (not from Chicago area) and before I knew who he was, I was really impressed with the depth of analysis that he provided. I actually learned from him, whereas most commentators try to "dumb down" their material too much, so that all they're spouting is trite crap that 90% of baseball fans already know. He struck me as very thorough in his knowledge of the teams he was discussing. When they came back from a commercial break and he was identified as Steve Stone, I was amazed that the Cubs fired him. He's the best that I've seen in the color role. Wait a minute-what year was this? You weren't watching Cubs games in 04? I have no idea what year it was. I didn't watch Cubs games in '04 because I don't live in or near Chicago and don't have WGN. I did watch nationally televised games that year, I'm sure.
  15. gimme 4/18 against the Braves

  17. dream on... don't care what he or his parents are saying, he's going to the nba. Normally I'm all for guys staying all four years in college. I usually don't like when they go pro early, but for guys like Oden and Durant, they need to go as soon as they are allowed. He has a shot to be the #1 pick, or at worst, the #2 pick. If he stays in college, he could only jeopardize that ala Matt Leinart. Plus, if he gets hurt next year playing college ball, he's out of luck. If he gets hurt playing NBA ball, he'll have his millions to fall back on. The reason most people go to college is to get a good job. Some guys find a way to do that without graduating by going pro in their sports. I wonder which one the Celtics will get? The NBA usually has the major market teams get the premi #1 pick unless they happen to be from Ohio. Yeah that's what I'm hoping for with the Sixers... NBA should set it up so that the Celtics and Sixers get Oden and Durant, and Memphis gets screwed and falls out of the top 3.

  19. board favorite JD Drew had the second-most votes for worst signing of the winter...
  20. Will Carroll's system probably has rated Z as a high injury risk for the past three years.
  21. guess i picked a good night to attend my only penn state game of the year... and to be honest i only went to see greg oden play

  24. yeah just let him go and take the extra draft picks... after all, when we stockpiled high picks in 2002 we ended up with the sweet haul of Bobby Brownlie, Luke Hagerty, Chadd Blasko, Matt Clanton, Brian Dopirak and Justin Jones. And damned if that wasn't hitting the jackpot! and no, the Cubs will not get Wood and Adenhart for Zambrano.
  25. nick's about to be skipped...
