  1. Plus the error he gave DeRosa, not a good game for him today. He just does not conjure up feelings of "Cubbie Swagger" for me.
  2. I'd have rather had Izturis up there. No lie. There's noone I'd rather not have than Cedeno. Z, Marquis, et all.
  3. Christ, he's got the form of my 4 year old daughter. I would like to offer your daughter a 3 year contract for $11.5 million She's looking for 4/16.2 That picture is on the back cover of the Sun Times!!
  4. My bad, I was confused. I have a hard time with sarcasm I guess sometimes.
  5. Not really. One strikes out about a batter an inning. The other strikes out about a batter a game. ?? In 2006... Zito k'd 151 in 221 Hill k'd 90 in 99.3 innings, and in the minors has always been well over 1 per inning.
  6. Woody Williams as an Astro is another move that weakens the Central, presuming he is really replacing Clemens or Pettite. Fine with me.
  7. KRIV-TV in Houston is reporting that Carlos Lee and the Astros have agreed to terms on a six-year contract. No word yet on the terms of the deal, but $90 million is as good a guess as any. If the report is true, Lee picked the Astros over the Orioles, Phillies and Giants. Since he has a ranch near Houston, the Astros were the favorites right from the start.
  8. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2674398 Thought I just heard 6 and $100m on ESPN 1000 update per Levine. I keep getting more comfortable with the Soriano deal
  9. If you want to go young, you have one perfect opportunity... Now. There are three months left this season to have at least 3 rookies in the rotation. Z, Prior, Marshall, Guzman and Marmol. Bring up Hill also, put one in long relief or switch 2 of them so they all get to start.
  10. Which one of the bouncing ground balls to the right side is everybody upset about?
  11. Bynum Blanco Hill Along with Murton and Cedeno (although I like them both) this is literally close to a AAA team.
  12. Early in the season I was intruiged and excited about this team. Double steals, suicide squeezes, etc. Of late this has been the same crap we've had to watch the last couple years. I don't care if Lee is hurt. Still need to play smart baseball. I thought we were on a roll that when you didn't perform you were sent down or lost your spot ie Williams and Rusch. If that's the case, Jones should ride the pine until he figures out how to not get doubled up off second on a line drive to the friggin outfield. I like lots on this team still, Murton, Cedeno, Barrett, Ramirez, relief, young pitchers, etc. But needless to say again they're frustrating to watch. Jones needs to go.
  13. Not sure if this is wishful thinking or not, but my guess is Hendry is playing his cards as well as he can, and has no intention of dealing Prior. The Orioles come back and say Prior needs to be a part of this deal, Hendry says if so Bedard and probably others need to be involved knowing the O's won't do it with their need for more starting pitching. He has also probably told them he would deal pitching prospects for Tejada, but not with Prior, since pitching is so valuable. With Stockstill in Baltimore, maybe Hendry is hoping the O's back off asking for Prior and say, we can't deal Bedard, but we'll deal with Tejada for Hill, Guzman, Dopriak, etc. In which case Hendry then could say... ok, deal done. Wishful thinking, or Hendry thinking??
  14. Well considering they've sold every ticket for two straight years, raised ticket prices again for 2006 and added 1800 seats for 2006, I would assume the payroll would be at least the same as last year. If that's not the case I will be disappointed. At the very least I expect they would pick up some salary at the ASB. They used to not really raise prices after dissapointing years, but after last year, I would hope that goes towards players.
  15. I generally am relatively patient about transactions, understanding that it's not about doing a bunch up front, but getting what you need done over a period of time. That being said, ever since the last couple months of the 2004 season, I've been getting this gut feeling that the Cubs are just behind the ball. There was a guy consistently sitting behind me that during games would yell one thing,"DO SOMETHING." This lasted through most of last year I think, while the Cubs couldn't drive in a man from third with noone out, etc. Now I'm feeling it's translated to the offseason and transactions. Yes the Eyre and Howry deals got done, and I'm glad they preempted other teams for top middle relief, and thought they would continue, but this Furcal nonsense and this Cardinal news is disturbing, I will continue to have faith in Hendry, and not pass any judgement. If during the meetings however nothing happens, and other teams deal and sign, I will start getting worried.
  16. Hate them as much as you want, but they won the friggin pennant. Something our team hasn't been able to do it....... (can't type it) Sox fans drive me nuts, most that I know are pains. But for the one's that are true baseball fans (I do know a couple) they should revel. I'm already sick thinking about the games at Wrigley next year against the Sox and the crap their fans will be talking. But even when I want to hate the fans, their management, etc, I've got to give props to the team. And Konerko, AJ, Rowand, Buerhle...some of those guys are hard nosed good players, and they deserve it. Just wish it was in a different uniform.
  17. It does pain me to say it, but I can't help it. They've had a hell of a season and deserve it. 4 complete games to top it off. As a Chicagoan, I've always said it's pathetic that the third largest city in the country can't develop winners let alone consistent winners outside of the Bulls for those 6 championships. It would be hypocritical of me to now say it's not good for the city that they White Sox won the pennant. Ouch. We'll see what happens in the Series. If they face the Cardinals I think I route for the Sox. If it's the Stros I may root for Houston. Regardless, go Cubs, get ready for next year.
  18. Think about this. Sox vs Astros in the World Series. Sox haven't been to the series since '59? Astros never been to the Series. That knocks off two more historic "losers" not just one, regardless who wins. I won't speak for the last 97 years, but just for the last 2. The Cubs should be embarrased for what has gone on in 04 & 05, and even moreso if the above is the case. In a time where parity appears to be showing, the Cubs can't get to the playoffs. The good news to me is, yes I think this would light some sort of a fire under the entire organizations you know what's.
  19. I would offer him arb. He already said he'd be willing to go to the OF. Worst case scenario is you have Nomar in LF. If he gets injured, it'd be a hell of a lot easier to replace him than if you sunk that much money into him as a SS again. My personal preference is to resign him as a corner OF and spend money on more pitching. If you sign Furcal he can lead off, but I'd like to see Lofton as a shirt term stopgag in CF. Both wouldn't be that bad as 1 & 2 in the lineup. Lofton CF Furcal SS Nomar LF Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Murton RF Barrett C Cedeno 2B Zambrano Prior Wood Maddux and sign Washburn or someone else as a 5th starter. Spend as much as possible on the bullpen.
