Free-agent outfielder Johnny Damon is a left-handed hitter, but he isn't on the Cubs' radar.

I'm not sure that Furcal was on the Dodgers radar for that long but they came in at the last minute and possibly signed him. I think that Hendry has the funds and the ability to do the same thing for any free agent or player that he wants to trade for.

I'd rather trade for Pierre than sign Damon regardless. Damon is too old to be asking for so much.

Damon is 32. Is that old for a CF? He is a good OBP & his BB/K rates are very impressive.

As far as when Pie is ready, we could move either him or Damon to a corner OF spot.

Damon doesn't have nearly enough power or throwing arm for a corner spot.

And what concerns me is not what Damon will do at 32 or 33, but at 35 and 36. His agent has said he waints 7 years, and while that is ridiculous, I can't see him signing for less than 4 or 5.

If he would sign a 3 year deal, I'd probably go for it. But at 4 or 5 years at probably 11-13 million per, someone else can have him.

I agree with your assesment.
