I'd rather have Dunn.

If we're going to get someone with injury concerns/potential from the Reds, I'll take Kearns. Willy Mo doesn't interest me much.

Hopefully those comments from Pena drive the Reds to move one or more of their outfielders.

Im tempted, only because the guy hit 19 HRs in 311 ABs. He obviously needs to walk more, but the power is obviously there.

Also, there are some interesting names on his PECOTA comparisons: Albert Belle, Dale Murphy and Dave Winfield most notably. I think putting him in CF could be an interesting move.

According to BP, he played 46 games at CF in 2004, and was not a butcher.

Good point. Hmm...

Could you imagine a Murton, Pena, Abreu/Giles outfield? Pena would be one of the top producing CF in the league I bet, and he's only 24!

If the price is right, I don't mind taking a chance on Pena. I'd prefer Dunn, but I would take Pena over Kearns or Griffey when dealing for a Reds outfielder.

I think it's clear the Reds need to do something to clear up that crowded outfield.

Pena was certainly rushed to the bigs and lacks plate discipline, but when has that scared off Hendry? lol

An .800 OPS is very respectable for CF, and is very obtainable for Wily Mo Pena. Just don't bat him 1 or 2.

I would be extremely happy to have him in CF, not in RF. But Bradley would be infinitely cheaper and would most likely have better production and can hit at the top of the order and improve our OBP. But Pena compared to Pierre is no comparison.

I'd prefer Dunn too, but if Pena is asking to be traded, they may choose to shop him instead of Dunn. Or they'll play him like he's asking and shop Dunn. Either way...Pena is probably a more realistic acquisition. I don't think we match up well enough with Cincy as trading partners to get Dunn. They'll want Z in order to justify sending him to another team in the NL Central, and we don't want to give him up.

I think someone hit it on the head earlier: Pena's a nice compliment to an OF w/ Murton and Dunn or Abreu. I don't think he's the proven impact guy we need.

For us Dunn-lovers, Pena is the inexpensive player and Dunn is due to make 8-10 million. If the Reds deal an outfielder for financial reasons, Dunn or Griffey would be the ones to go, I would think.

Pena might be a good fit on a lot of teams, but as far as the Cubs are concerned he's another right-handed power hitter who doesn't walk enough, which makes him too similar to the people we already have.

One would think that, but I thought one of their outfielders was gone at the trade deadline, which didn't happen. :?

Griffey is only making $6M/season up until '09. One would think they need to do something with Dunn starting to make the big bucks, but they could keep both. Dan O'Brien and the ownership don't seem to know what they want to do. They certainly need pitching and it's not going to come cheap.

We are talking about the Reds now, so I wouldn't bank on them doing what made the most sense or what was best for their team.

Seems to me that when a team has an overcrowded outfield and one member says "play me or trade me", that player has basically written his own plane ticket out of town.

The most prudent move for the Reds would be to trade Casey and move Dunn to first keeping the OF as Kearns, Griffey, and Pena.

On the other hand, Casey is very popular with the fans and in the clubhouse. He also would likely bring the smallest return.

Trading Dunn or Griffey would free up the most payroll. Dunn likely brings the largest return.

If I were the Reds, I'd take offers on all of them and weigh everything before making a final decision.

Dunn's not going to make 8-10 million. He only made 4.6 million last year, he won't double that in arbitration unless he gets a long term extension.

Really? I thought he'd get 8 in arbitration. Maybe he's more affordable for them than I thought...

EDIT

And, my disbelief caused me to double post.
