Since the season for the Jaxx is over, I haven't been checking the Sun daily for updates. Yesterday, someone close to Jackson asked if I heard about the December 15th deadline on the Jaxx. I don't have an annount with the Sun (at least, not yet), so I can't get the entire article. In any case, here's the opening lines to the article:

The city of Jackson threw a knuckle ball at Diamond Jaxx owners on Tuesday. It was a pitch that could either end the Jaxx's 2006 season before it starts, stabilize the current owners' presence here, or make way for a new owner to buy the team. In an effort to force Maryland millionaire and Diamond Jaxx owner Bob Lozinak into a multi-year lease agreement for Pringles Park, all nine City Council members voted...

Anybody know anything about this?

I think the Jaxx should relocate to Shreveport, LA.

lol. that'd be great. i used to live in shreveport and that was a nice town for local sports.

A nearly 50% decline in attendance since 2003. That's atrocious, considering how good the team has been.

Agreed. In addition, it's worth pointing out that the Jaxx have done an great job in regards to Public Relations.

Shreveport once had a AA in the Texas League. (Giants affiliate, I believe)

That team was purchased and is now in Frisco, TX. There's an independent league team that uses the stadium there, but I think Shreveport could support a higher quality team. It's 90 miles from Monroe to Shreveport, but if the Cubs affiliate were there, I'd probably buy season tickets.

For a while everyone The Jackson Sun interviewed Monday felt keeping the Jaxx was a benefit to the city's image, no one interviewed was going to the games.

"I've never been," said 26-year-old Shelby Thomas, a legal assistant by day and Dixie Castle waitress by night. "I guess if I knew somebody else who was really interested I might go, but for me, not to just go and sit there all night."

Ned Hunter called me one night and I told him that I go to about 50 games a year. Yet he said the no one that he interviewed was going to the games. This is an example of the negative press that the Jaxx have received in the past, however, I will have to say that David Brandt did an excellent job this past year covering the Jaxx for the Sun.

The Jaxx have a good firm base that supports the team as you can see by the activity on this forum. It is a great place to go, easy to get in and out without having to worry about your car getting stolen. We have a good time at the games and all it would take is for the city and the press to get behind the team.

I did not realize how big time minor league baseball is around the country until I got involved. The city of Jackson still must not realize that everyone in the minor leagues and major leagues, and all sports for that matter, are looking to see what happens in Jackson. The winter meetings are coming up in Dallas soon and don't think for one minute the Djaxx will not be mentioned. What the city of Jackson does in the next couple of weeks (if it is not too late already) will determine the future of professional sports in Jackson, TN. Maybe Jackson does not really care whether they have professional sprots or not. Maybe they are satisfied with just high school and youth league sports.

I second that idea, Shreveport would be a great place to relocate.

It's good to see there's another Cubs fan from Monroe on here.

Wait until Vance sees this. How big is Monroe? You two will be having beers at hooters and watching Cubs.

No major news yet, just an update on what's going on. Here's the Link

Well, before the Jackson Sun gets so high and mighty saying that ownership and the city both need to contribute, they should look in the metaphorical mirror. The Sun could do a lot more to help. They generally provide game coverage only for home games. The sports home page does not have a link dedicated to the only professional sports franchise in town. I have followed several of the different minor league clubs and the Sun's coverage is among the worst.

Bingo. A few years ago, the Sun had Kary Booher covering the Jaxx. His coverage of the Jaxx was some of the best sports journalism I have ever read. In addition, the Jaxx did have a link on the Sun website. Since then, Kary isn't covering the Jaxx and the coverage doesn't seem as dedicated as before. David Brandt does a great job, but the Sun doesn't collectively cover the Jaxx as they once did. In addition, the Sun is writing many articles that appear are intended to sway the public against them. Cubway's post above is a great example of this.

The Sun continues their unbalanced coverage of the Jaxx. Here's their latest spin on the situation between the Jaxx and the city of Jackson. For the record, keep in mind that there are 9 city council members that are a part of this discussion.

The Macon Telegraph article that mentions the Jaxx can be found here

The process might be broadening considerably in the next week or so. Anthony said representatives of the Chicago Cubs have contacted the city about possibly relocating its Double-A franchise here, perhaps as early as next season.
