I heard this being discussed last night on the Score. Jim Hendry would like to look into Cliff Floyd again. Hendry was interested in him last year and still is intrigued by him.

I think Floyd would be a good fit in between Aramis and Lee. He is a lefty outfield bat with pop and a good OBP. Last year he hit 34 homers, batted .275ish, and his OBP was .370. I think that would fit well in the middle of our order. I also think Hendry might get him because he has been preaching defense all offseason and Floyd had 15 assists last year and only 2 errors.

Assuming we got a leadoff hitter would you guys want Floyd?

Cliff Floyd is the perfect fit for RF assuming he stays healthy. That has always been the question mark about him. The stats you provided show what he's capable of doing as long as he stays healthy.

at this point i would rather have wilkerson if he's available. although his ba & rbi # dont look great, in his 4 years he has an average obp + slg of .828 with a high of .872 in 2004. as has been mentioned, maybe hendry sees another barrett type player who just needs a change of scenery & a different home park to hit in. his arm is certainly strong enough for rf. that said, floyd would be a great 2nd choice though if brad is not available. Wilkerson in CF, Floyd in RF?

thats ok but unless furcal is signed, they still dont have a leadoff man. with his power, i think it is a misuse of his talent to bat wilkerson 1st. how would it be if the cards do sign giles but the cubs trade for pierre & either wilkerson or floyd? i guess it depends on what they give up to get those 2 guys.

Floyds number are better in almost every category. Floyd is an impact bat Wilkerson is not.

Wilkerson for what he brings as a CF is better than what Floyd brings as a corner OF.

That said, the suggestion was to get them both, not to choose between the two.

Why do you not think that Floyd is not as good a corner OF as Wilkerson is a CF?

It's just the value of players, the spectrum goes like this:

1B - LF - RF - 3B - CF - 2B - SS - C

Where players on the left are easier to find than players on the right. It's the reason Rafael Furcal is going to get about $9 million a season where Aramis Ramirez got just $1 million more to stay with the Cubs, and that's because quality SS are harder to find than quality 3B. So as far as I'm concerned, I can live with a bit of a dropoff in numbers from Wilkerson in CF (in comparison to Floyd RF), because it'd be easier to find another RF that could hit for around Floyd's numbers than it would to find another CF that could match the production of Wilkerson's.

i am assuming that the cubs trade for pierre to play cf. if they sign furcal, i wouldnt mind seeing wilkerson in cf & floyd in right. as far as an impact bat, a guy with a 4 yr ave obp + slg of .828 sounds very productive to me (especillay considering the home parks he played in those 4 years). i can see him putting up .850-.900 in wrigley.
