I was trying to make the point that Gonzo was more deserving than Renteria in '03 but missed out in part due to offensive numbers. Renteria was essentially average when compared to the other shortstops in the field. Gonzo not only tied for 2nd the majors in fielding pct. but had above average range, converting 22 more batted balls than the average SS. Renteria, on the other hand, converted 2 more batted balls.
