Last night I received an e-mail from Casey McGehee stating that he would be leaving for Mexico at the beginning of next month to play winter ball. I asked Casey if he would be interested in being a NSBB Correspondent, where he would send updates similar to what Jon Searles did with At The Yard. Casey replied saying that he would be a Correspondent and that it would be "great as far as giving updates"!

Over the course of the season Casey will be sending updates about his time in Mexico. These updates will be about things both on and off the field and will be found on the main page of the site. In addition, I encourage all of you to feel free to send me notes to pass on to Casey as the season progresses.

In regards to the season, I asked Casey if he knows other guys going and who he will be playing with. I also asked Casey what his goals are and what his thoughts are as he prepares to leave. Here are some of the comments that Casey had to say:

As far as guys I know that are going down to Mexico to play include Chris Walker (Daytona). He is going to Gustave I think. I will be on the same team with Trinidad Hubbard, Adrian Gonzalez (Texas Rangers), and Chris Duncan (St.Louis). Other than that I am not too sure who else is going down there.

Personal goals for me would include getting more at bats against guys who have pitched at very high levels and know what they are doing. From what I understand the Mexican League is known for being sort of a junk ball league where you don't see a lot of fastballs. This really excites me because I feel that it will help inprove my biggest weakness as far as hitting goes, which is the ability to stay back and drive the ball to all fields. It will also help me improve on not taking good pitches to hit just because they are not fastballs. I am really looking forward to the opportunity of going to another country and learning about the culture.
