Just a hypothetical here....

IF the Cubs sign Giles, keep Lawton for leadoff, and bring back Nomar (all plausible), there's not a big need for Walker. They could put a 1-7 of Lawton, Nomar, Giles Lee, ARam, Patterson or Pie, and Barrett out there.

IF they get Giles and keep Lawton and Nomar, I'd rather see them deal Walker and Murton for an arm, and get some d @ 2b. Hudson's career ops is around .750, I think, and that isn't a far cry from what Walker has done over his career, and Hudson has tons of range and a real strong arm. Also, Hudson's will be 28, whereas Walker will be 33. One on the probable decline, the other allegedly entering his prime.

IF the Cubs don't bring back Nomar and go w/ Cedeno, I'd prefer to keep Walker.

How are you going to get Hudson? Toronto still thinks pretty highly of him I believe.

Package Wellemeyer in a trade. ;)

Well Theo went for d in his infield. Renteria's real good, and my guess is that Mueller still ranks quite high.

Renterias been an absolute hack in the field this year. Leads the league in errors and is .003 away from being in the cellar in fielding percentage among qualified shortstops. Mueller is still one of the better thirdbasemen in the league. Millar is garbage. Walker is just as good as Horny. I wouldnt say that Theo went for D in his infield at all.

Renteria wasn't considered really good in the field before he got there?? Why would Theo sign him for such money then?? Doubtful it was for his bat.

He was the best offensive SS FA (other than Nomar). He was the best offensive shortstop in 2003 and behind only Nomar and Miggy in 2002. I never said he wasn't good in the field, but you didnt see Theo show interest in Alex Gonzalez, did you?

NO MORE NOMAR !!!!! What a big name, non-factor. Thank God they acquired him, because those 70 games he's played have been huge.

Here's an idea: Cedeno at SS. Give it to him in ST. For the love of God, would it kill the Cubs to have some younger players starting every day? This isn't some sort of dynasty we're talking about here.....IT'S THE CUBS!!!!!!! How about mixing things up a little with some youth? 2008 is coming pretty fast, and the same old, same old is getting, well, old. I realize with the current manager, this may be tough, just wishful thinking.

Cedeno, Lee, Ramirez and Barrett. The other 4 positions can be up for grabs . I'm sick of looking at this band of underachievers.

Listen, I LOVE Cedeno, but I do see two problems with this proposal:

(1) What happens if CEDENO gets injured? I'd rather see EPatt come up and try his hand at SS than risk seeing a new (or worse, recycled) piece of Baker Boy crap du saison show up "filling in"... and then get the job. But assuming we're stuck with Dustbogger for another season, this leads me to my second point...

(2) Let's be realistic - we don't have a prayer of seeing Cedeno starting unless Dusty gets the ax in the offseason. And even if Cedeno were to start w/Dusty as manager (that is, if Hendry were no longer to let himself be led down the primrose path by Baker, and put his foot down when it comes to personnel - who plays, where they play, and how often they will play), God forbid he gets injured or in an awful slump, because there WILL be an overpaid scrub Dusty likes to replace - er, fill in - for the guy.

(See the vicious cycle?)

Also, who should be at 2B? Mark Loretta is looking attractive to me - yes, he's older, but he keeps his mouth shut and does his job, and does it respectably well. Granted, he doesn't have speed, but he has half a brain when it comes to baserunning, and he GETS ON BASE. I'd rather see a steady bat at the top of the order than a streaky speedster.

There's no way Loretta's option doesn't get picked up by SD. Also, Walker and Loretta have been comparable hitters this year, going by RC Walker is a tick better. We have a cheap option on Walker, and there's no reason not to pick it up and not have to worry about 2B next year.

Yeah, didn't realize there was a club option on the books... for either of them, actually.

What's Nomar's status?? Is he done for the year??

Jmo but put the money into the outfield and pitching. Put Cedeno @ SS and Walker @ 2b.

IF Nomar's done for the year, I doubt even the best performance enhancers can get him healthy again.

RC is Runs Created, a counting metric for offensive performance. There are several variations of calculating RC, googling "define runs created" will link you to some sites if you want to learn more.

Nomar is day-to-day. He says he'll be ready to play Friday after the off day.

Good deal. I was expecting the worse.
