Some notes for all of ya from BA's best tools lists this week (I covered the MWL earlier in the week):

-In the National League, Derrek Lee was 2nd in "Best Hitter", "Best Power", and "Most Exciting Player" (Behind Pujols) and 1st in "Best Defensive 1B". Greg Maddux was awarded "Best Control".

-In the PCL, no Iowa Cubs were named. :(

-In the Southern League, Ricky Nolasco was awarded "Best Control" and Casey McGehee was awarded "Best Defensive 3B".

-In the Florida State League, Chris Walker was named "Fastest Baserunner".

Give a round of applause for these award winners! =D>

Also, I'm planning on going out on the town tonight. I should have most of the boxes updated before heading out...but I just thought I'd give you all a heads up. :D

I had not heard that McGehee's defense was thought of so highly. Way to go Casey! He's a very intruiging prospect in my book. He has been hitting a ton of doubles and he hits for high average. Since they tried him catcher as well, it indicates to me that the organization must think highly of his baseball IQ as well.

Quick reminder that the Q & A threads for the Jaxx will be locked tonight at midnight. Even if you don't have a question, please take a moment to congratulate the guys on a great season thus far. Thanks in advance!

Left-hander Renyel Pinto (7-2 2.10) gets the start tonight for the Diamond Jaxx. Lefty Ryan O'Malley will throw tommorow night for the Jaxx. Chattanooga is countering with righty Jeff Bruksch (3-5 3.74). They wanted Pinto on his regular four days rest.

BTW, Brandon Sing has been named the Topps Player of the Month in the Southern League for the month of July. Sing was first in the league with nine homers and first in the league with a .732 slugging percentage. He was also second in the league with a .366 average and second in the league with 22 RBI's.

Heck of a month...

Thanks, Ron. I'm just the third-stringer for minor league rotations, so I need all the help I can get!

And congrats to Brandon. That's impressive.

Ryan Harvey Home Run!! ~#20~

Chiefs first baserunner, first hit and first run of the evening.

1-0 Chiefs, top 4th

Nathan had said last night that he'll have net access through tonight's game, so if you have any questions, email him at nathanb@chiefsnet.com. They don't have any access at Clinton, the next stop on the Chiefs road trip.

Ron was reporting the news on Rich and I felt compelled to e-mail Ron with a report that the defense was atrocious. ha ha

Good work...yeah Rich walked the first two batters...but after that, the defense would have been better at single A.

After Harvey's HR, 3 two-out singles by Schmidt, Flowers and Granato lead to another run.

Bernard reaches base on an error: bases loaded, two outs

Simokaitis with an RBI walk!

Rivera grounds into a fielders choice.

--------------

Javier Herrera hits a solo shot in the bottom of the 4th.

3-1 Chiefs to the 5th.

3-1 Chiefs to the 5th.

Eric Patterson singles, then steals 2B & 3B to score on a Ryan Harvey sac fly!

4-1 Chiefs, bottom 5

... Billek walks the first two batters (close call on the first walk). ... takes a line drive back to the mound, knocks it down and gets the runner at first .... appears to be ok.

ETA: a wild pitch scores another Cougars run, and Billek is pulled with a 2-0 count on the batter for Dickson.

Billek working around 91-92mph tonight by the pitchers gun (scoreboard gun is out).

Matt Weber would be a good broadcast sidekick. :)

The sound keeps cutting out on my broadcast feed, and I have to leave in little while, anyway ... so i'm out 'til later ... GO CHIEFS!

That didn't sound good. Ron was just talking about Pie bobblehead night (which is also NSBB broadcast night) and said that the way things are going it may be the only time you see him. Not good...

Can there be any good news in this organization please. Watch him go the Angel Guzman route and be injured every year now

Since you asked, Reyes left the game early but there hasn't been any reason given. He could've just been out for no reason.
