I am extremely pleased at the way Jeromy has performed this season and I think it would be worth a shot to bring him back for at least 1 more year. However, with Corey and Lawton, keeping Burnitz could mean no chances at starting Murton or giving Pie a chance. Edited by Rondon Fan

I say only bring Burnitz back if you can't get Lawton to resign at a reasonable amount. Lawton is the lead-off hitter we need. I think Burnitz is easier to replace, though he's been a pleasant surprise and I wouldn't mind having him. With Lawton, if CPatt is still around and actually performing next year, that leaves only 1 OF spot and I hope Murton is given a real shot in LF. He's earned at least that much this year.

But, if Lawton jumps ship or demands too much money, sign Burnitz to another 1-year deal (and hope to stumble upon a leadoff hitter).

No thanks.

He's doing a decent job for us this year. But he's not getting any younger, and we already have a plethora of outfield options. Besides, with all the money that will be cleared from sosa's contract, I'd like to see us go out and trade for someone like an Adam Dunn and give him a multi year contract.

If he is the best available option for 2006 I say yes. If the Cubs field:

CPatt CF

Lawton LF

Murton RF

ARam 3B

Nomar SS

Walker 2B

Lee 1B

Barrett C

I'd be content with that team...not thrilled but ok.

It really depends. I don't think it's necessarily a horrible idea to re-sign Burnitz to 1 more reasonable 1 year deal if we upgrade elsewhere.

Hell yes. Contract status: Jeromy Burnitz: signed deal for 2005 season worth 5M on 2/2/05- he will make 4.5M in 2005- + the deal includes a Mutual Option for 2006 worth 7M or a 500K buyout- + he will not receive the buyout if the team exercises the option and he declines it- + he can earn 250K in performance bonuses based on games started each year Agent: Howard Simon Service Time: 8.100

Tribune will pick up his option, IMO.

Eh, he's got below average stats among RF's this season, and the only real impressing thing about him is his defense. I'd rather not bring him back.
