Hollandsworth VS. Gerut

I'm happy that we got Matt Lawton from the Pirates, but I really hated to see Jody Gerut go. I wish Dusty would have played him more but I know we had a logjam of outfielders, as it were. I really wish the deal could have been Hollandsworth for Lawton straight up but maybe the Pirates wanted Gerut instead. I guess also maybe Hairston, Jr. was more valuable to keep because he can play other positions than OF. Man, I really liked Gerut's defense. What y'all think? It was a good deal don't get me wrong...I just wish we could have gotten rid of Holly instead.

I suspect if Hendry could've done this deal for Hollandsworth, he would be gone without a second thought.

I haven't been the biggest fan of Holly lately, but he is still a very good pinch hitter and 4th outfielder, so I'm glad to see him stay. Hopefully with Lawton, Hollandsworth will be used in the roles where he's the best.

Pirates wanted a young player that they could control for several years (i.e. not Holly) and would have been foolish to take anything else given their financial situation.
