Step 1. Cubs trade Hill, Mitre, Patterson to Texas for Alfonso Soriano

and Adrian Gonzalez

Step 2. Mets trade Yusmerio Petit, Jesus Flores for Danys Baez.

Step 3. Cubs trade Alfonso Soriano and Adrian Gonzalez to Mets for Danys

Baez, Aaron Heilman, Victor Diaz and Gaby Hernandez.

Step 4. Cubs trade Gaby Hernandez, Jae Kuk Ryu, Ricky Nolasco and J.R.

Mathes to Reds for Adam Dunn

Step 5. Cubs trade Aaron Heilman, Victor Diaz and Brian Dopirak to

Phillies for Billy Wagner.

In the End:

Cubs have: Adam Dunn, Danys Baez, Billy Wagner, and a farm system

consisting only of Felix Pie and Mark Pawalek

Phillies:Heilman, Diaz and Dopirak. Heilman can shift Padilla to the

bullpen or allow them to trade Padilla

Reds: Gaby Hernandez, Ryu, Nolasco and Mathes. Reds get young pitching

Devil Rays: Petit and Flores. Devil Rays get two good prospects

Texas: Hill, Mitre, Patterson. Texas gets Rich Hill

Mets: Alfonso Soriano and Adrian Gonzalez. Mets get Soriano and a young

first baseman to replace Mientkewicz.

I think this could put us over the top, at the expense of all future Cubs teams. What do you think?

Well, If we are going to destroy the system, then why go through so many steps?

Trade a buttload of talent for Manny Ramirez.

Trade talent for Billy Wagner.

Trade talent for some other solid releiver.

No need to make it complicated.

Of course, destroying the farm system is a baaaaaaad Idea.

This is a joke, right?

Why dont we trade Lee, Ramirez, Burnitz, Prior, Z, and Maddux while we're at it?

#1. The Phillies won't want Dopirak... they already have an up and coming stud firstbaseman...

#2. It's going to take more than Hill, Mitre, and Patterson to get Soriano and Gonzalez

The reason that I would prefer Adam Dunn to Manny Ramirez is the fact that Dunn cannot earn the approximately $64 million Manny has owed to him unless we sign him to a 5-7 year extension, whereas Manny is under contract only until 2008.

And why not trade the whole system?

Because trading every young player gets you nowhere fast. You have to have cheap, productive talent somewhere, because you cannot afford everyone.

If you want to try for Manny and Pie is the hangup, deal Pie. If it's Hill, deal Hill. Manny is that good, and would all but guarantee the playoffs. But you don't gut yourself and deal them both, and throw in Harveyfor fun , because if you don't happen to win now, you're up a creek.

I'm all for trading anyone in the system to win now, but I'm not for completely blowing up what would take a decade to repair.

so basically you're saying we should become the next yankees...

seeing as the yankees new philosophy is to go young?

edit

as in...trade away our farm system to try and win this season, also because the yankees are unwilling to trade some of the young players in their organization *ie cano*. By trading away 7 of our young players, for 3 players, who we probably cant sign next year, we have the yankees mindset

hopefully that clarifies my thinking
