July, as we all know, started with seven losses. It looked bleak at the time. The sweep of the Marlins helped just before the ASG.

Since the Atlanta sweep the Cubs have won 4 series and tied another (Damn Reds).

Cubs by Month

April 12-11

May 14-13 (started month with a 6 game losing streak)

June 14-13

July ??-?? (started Month with a 7 game losing streak)

Every series from here on out is huge for the Cubs. They can't have a let down and play to the level of there competition which happened with the Giants and Reds series.

The Cubs need a couple of big blowout wins to reenergize and relax a bit resting the pen. The addition of Wood to the pen will be huge. I look forward to see Wood coming into the game and slamming the door.

The Cubs role players have been stepping up. Neifi and Burntiz have done a good job. Barrett also have contributed along with Murton, and Walker.

The role players on the Cubs hold the key to the Cubs success.

Teams around the league have a formula to beat the Cubs, which is take pitches early and drive the pitch count up. Get into the pen and take your chances there. The Cubs tighen that loop and close it. They will go on a run and compete for the wild card.

Look for Woods and Williams to solidify the pen. Look for Kearns to contribute in left and look for a couple of big breaks to go the Cubs way.

What worries me is that the team may need a day off. How many games in a row are they going to play like 18 since the ASB? Also it looks like there isnt many days off in the future either. I hope the Cubs can hold up to the mad dash down the stretch.
