Last night, Nomar graciously agreed to be my pre-game guest tonight at 5:30 PM.

He was great to everyone here yesterday, just a class act and even handled the media perfectly. He signed in the rain for about 45 minutes.

We are now sold out for tonight and tomorrow, selling more standing room only tickets hoping for 8000+ which is just phenomenal.

Nomar will play game 1 today and not game 2.

Not to contribute to or squelch any rumors, but he and Oneri both said he will be back in Chicago on Firday where they will sit down and evaluate and hammer out a plan. I wouldn't ecpect him anywhere else until at least Saturday.

Also, Oneri agreed to do a few innings as a color guy tonight....not sure when it will happen. If its up to me I'd go with game 2 so he can evaluate Nomar's appearance, but his family is here with him so I don't know what the plan will be....Thats all from here. I will update late if I can!!

Thanks for that update, Nathan! How are field conditions today?

Field conditions today are perfect....and how ironic is it that before yesterday we hadnt put the tarp on the field since May and even then it was off before BP. Yesterday was the first drop of rain we had after 2:00 PM on a game day in 2005.....

I work for the Bats in Louisville and he was the same way last year when he was on rehab here with Pawtucket. Couldn't have been nicer to everyone. Signed autographs before and after games, didn't turn down an interview. Great to know one of your favorite players is a great guy as well.

and i hear ya about the drought that all of IL is getting. Yesterday was the first day it rained for pretty much most of the entire day all summer.

Too bad the time zone situation for me is screwy; I would have made a sound clip of the interview had I known earlier.

Nathan,

Matt Stewart is my best friend. He tells me nothing but good things about you, except the thing the two of you have in common.

All my best and go Chiefs,

Gary

Just curious, but when will you be back in the states?

Hopefully on Monday, August 1. I'm on standby right now.

Well, I tried to record Nathan's talk with Oneri, but for some reason it didn't record the sound (though I can hear the broadcast sound just fine -- in fact, better than I can at home). Hopefully, the Chiefs can get it up on the audio part of the web site, where have some older interviews with Oneri and Jim Hendry up.

Does anyone know if Nomar plans on staying with Peoria through the weekend? If he does, I may get to catch him play.

No Nomar in Ft. Wayne. He's supposed to stay with Peoria through tonight, then go to Chicago tomorrow to meet with Cubs' personnel and discuss the next step. He may then report to another team (speculation is West Tenn) on Saturday. The plan seems to be for him to play with teams that are playing at home.

It's official.. Nomar will be making a rehab appearance with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx this weekend at Pringles Park. The Diamond Jaxx will be playing the Carolina Mudcats. Tickets are available for both Saturday night and Sunday...

Peoria Journal-Star[/url]"]FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Garciaparra bought the Chiefs a steak dinner. Wood bought barbecue after his appearance at Fort Wayne, then followed with more steak after his game here.

Providing a nice postgame spread is a tradition for rehabbing big-leaguers, but the gesture didn't go unnoticed.

"You put it in the back of your mind, the way they lead by example," Gallagher said.

Clubhouse manager Joe Ringham put a recent comment by Chiefs manager Julio Garcia in the back of his mind.

Garcia joked to the Journal Star that the team sometimes resorts to eating gnats for clubhouse nourishment.

The clubbie responded by hanging an updated menu, including gnats as an upcoming dish, above the food table.
